this song reminds me of myself and my past relationship=/

having a boy that supposedly cares and wants to have a future with you but makes mistakes at every turn he takes in life while being with this girl that loves him truly and wished to be with forever. mistakes started driving them apart, well so the girl felt. She started getting tired of all the nonsense that was going on with this relationship that she had no choice but to give up and move on.

"I know that I have made mistakes and I swear
I'll never wrong you again"
I heard this over and over again over millions of times.. soo there was no choice but to leave the relationship which results in "That you're deserting for better company".

Sucks things dont ever happen the way u wished they would have.

Thinking Critically | Reviewer: Left Striker | 6/28/09

All of you don't understand that the song's referring to soccer/football. You see a game has only 2 halves. But when it ends in a tie, you either call it a draw, have penalty shootout or an extra period. That's what they meant as the third quarter. It'll be a big deal guarding the net because it's such a tight match. Think about it. If it was netball, they would've said FOURTH QUARTER and not THIRD.

And it's a metaphor for not wanting her to get passed him leaving him alone.

Very adorable song~ | Reviewer: Ariana | 6/12/09

The lyrics and the tune are awesomely cute..
I imagine this is about a hopeless romantic guy and a tough, know-it-all girl.. I love the almost Tetris and Mario-like rhythm. I am now generally addicted, I reckon. And the issue about the sport, please, it's just a simile, don't make a big deal about it!

Ahhhhh hahahaha, I adore this song!

I love Benjamin Gibbard's style in Death Cab for Cutie and the Postal Service, but sometimes his songs border on stalkerdom...

Take 'I Will Possess Your Heart' - It's pretty much a stalker crooning, "Girl, I know you don't know me at all, but I *LOVE* you, and I'm 110% positive that you'll love me too <3!1!!11!eleventyone!!11"

Then here's 'Nothing Better' where the girl spits back, "Dude - back off!"

YOU GO GIRL!!! SHYEAH lol

Wow. | Reviewer: Tucker | 4/24/09

THINK ABOUT IT.
4 quarters in a dollar
4 quarters in a soccer game
4 quarters = 1
Hocky = 3 PERIODS.
The song says QUARTER.
I'm pretty sure it doesn't say period..
A quartered game is split into 4 different periods, each of which would be one fourth of the game, or a "quarter."
Idiots.
It's obviously soccer because soccer is the only game with a net that has QUARTERS (4 periods).
The significance of the 3rd quarter in this song isn't that the game's almost over, it's that half-time is over, it's tied, and the game's nearing the last quarter, but is still tied. If it's the third quarter, you're probably more motivated to be blocking, because you want to score goals as early as possible, so he has motivation to block goals earlier, too. Lastly, if it was the fourth quarter and still tied, he'd lose some hope and motivation, which isn't what he's trying to say. Another reason that it's the third quarter, is because it's not the end; she hasn't left yet, and he wants to block her and keep her there. If it were the fourth quarter, that would mean she's almost out of his life for good, and there's little time and little chance of getting her to stay or come back.

WHAT?? | Reviewer: someone | 2/25/09

why the heck does it matter what sport it is?!?!?! It's not about the sport so get over it!

idiots... | Reviewer: anonymous | 2/4/09

Of course it's not about hockey, because hockey isn't a quartered sport (somewhat common sense in the sports world). He's talking about either indoor soccer or netball, both use 4 quarters and a goalkeeper.

UGH | Reviewer: Shawn | 1/28/09

stupid people this song is not about hockey! He says "i will block the door..." because he doesn't want her to leave. It's because he knew that he messed up and he wants to make it right but it can't happen because she made up her mind. Sounds like what has happened to me 2 or 3 times with girls.

A few things | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/25/08

a.) This song is absolutely amazing, beautifully written lyrics in sync with two beautiful voices.

b.) How did nobody get that it was Hockey? I don't even like sports and I knew that.

c.) "this song is great it remembers me of what i went true, there'se nog way you can brake up and move on couse the other one just cant stop lecture you about what you did and what kind of person you are, talking just doesnt help."
I'm sorry, but that's the worst advice I've ever heard. If it's love, nothing is more important than to talk about it. I'm sure what you went through wasn't real love. Honestly.

Plus, if you fucked up in a relationship that's supposed to be about love, it's the other person's right to chew your ass out and lecture you on what you did wrong, it's their chance to let you know how you hurt them. To not communicate that, just wouldn't be fair. I say this, having been a cheater once, and having been cheated on.
