last post on the bugle means last line in a bag of coke.thats what bugle is slang for.Pete was captivated by using alternative slang 'like morrisey was back in the smiths heyday. Its cleary drug related (this is clear in the bit that says though i felt elated i felt like i was scum)...
this song is so brilliant lyrically..doherty made poetry cool again.

Last Post On The Bugle is NOT about post | Reviewer: Max | 4/25/2006
Duh, the last post on the bugle is what they play at military funerals and stuff like that, not about MAIL. Yes, though it is a truly awesome song, and straight after Can't Stand Me Now which makes it even BETTER. It's actually a pretty random song but i've managed to glean from it thats its just another of several songs from the album which Pete uses to express his dissatisfaction with everything, basically that he feels everyone is prejudiced against him and he feels like he doesn't have purpose in this life. Not really sure how that relates to the last post on the bugle, but it could possibly be something to do with his reference to Judgement Day or something like that when he says 'Carrying a sign/saying the end of/The world is nigh' and that he's preparing for the end, which could also refer i don't know what in terms of real life... But anyway, its not always about the message, its about the music, and this song is AWESOME!
