The Reviews about Bad Habit (page 2/ 3)
------ performed by The Dresden Dolls

Different opinions | Reviewer: Rachel | 6/24/2007

With each of their songs, there’s always a layer of complicacy, even if the songs meaning is very simple. With this song, once you look at the lyrics properly it does have variable meanings, which is why I enjoy it so much. I agree that you shouldn’t ignore someone’s opinion, no matter what age they are. The song does point out about our world, how shallow and fake we've become, and how we don’t even notice when someone’s self harming. But then I feel at the end she’s looking at herself and how she’s been putting herself above it all, looking down on people, making her just the same. Well that’s just my take on it. This was without knowing the song was actually about her biting the skin around her nails.

uh | Reviewer: rarr | 6/23/2007

just because someone hadn't actually gone to the website and read that amanda picks the skin off aruond her fingers or whatever. does not make them an emo 11 year old. it could definently be interpreted as being about cutting you pompous dickhead.

you stupid, ignorant, nasty people | Reviewer: lucie | 6/20/2007

why as soon as they pick out something wrong or a defect in someone they pounce on the and rip them apart?

honestly guys, leave that little kid alone. shes didnt deserve any of the stuff you said.

it might be news to you, just "just 11 yr olds" can have huge destructive issues of their own. only fools judge by age.

and in the end music is music. it dosnt matter what others listen to, as long as you like *your* music, then that should be enough. dont slam other people for their likes. because, like all of you have done, you will end up looking ignorant, untolerant and rude.

kudos to the kind ones.

Bad habit | Reviewer: drmaqwn | 6/18/2007

it is indeed a bad habit in which i myself had to stop doing. The lyrics really breathe and are so true.

sophisticated you say? | Reviewer: Snowowl | 6/10/2007

The beautiful thing about music is that each can interpretate the meaning in his or her own way (usually people try to indentify music with the things they've gone through or going through in their life). There is absolutely NO need to start bashing eachothers opinions about this. And there is also no need to pretend that you're better/more 'sophisticated' then others because you think your intepretation is smehow 'better' or 'more accurate' then the one of an eleven year old. Also shows how much 'sophisticated' you all are when you ridicule an ELEVEN YEAR OLD...

youth | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/26/2007

Good on the eleven year old for listening to decent music. When I was eleven I was just starting to embrace the apparent wonders that were Avril Lavigne and Busted. Still if I was 11 when they were around anyone with decent maths can workout im hardly anywhere near my twenties yet so I dont suppose I can claim to being that superior in musical taste. Yey for the little people.

Snowowl was right-- | Reviewer: musicjunkie | 5/23/2007

"The lyrics are too deep for your stupid emo self to understand." ok, yeah. that's a real "sophisticated" attitude. "bad habit" is about amanda's destructive habit of picking the skin off her fingers. it could easily be taken as cutting. just because 'the 11 year old' interpreted the song as that doesn't mean that they are "emo." that's an ignorant assumption. one of the points of this song is that all the self-absorbed people of the world don't even notice when others are inflicting harm on themselves.

amanda writes her music to touch people. "bad habit" is about amanda's distructive habit of picking the skin off around her fingers, yes. if someone takes "bad habit" as being about cutting, it is still a destructive habit, and the song still makes sense and touches people. just because "the 11 year old" interpreted "bad habit" as being about cutting doesn't mean they are "emo." that interpretation makes perfect sense. "The lyrics are too deep for your stupid emo self to understand." ok, stupid. that's a very "sophisticated" attitude. yeah. i think they have a very good point. i see one of the points of this song is that this world is full of self-absorbed people.

meh | Reviewer: babs | 5/21/2007

an eleven year old shouldn't be listening to music as sophisticated as this. The lyrics are too deep for your stupid emo self to understand. and if you really analyze the text she uses you'll see that she feels misplaced or is just writing about someone misplaced, in a time period where she doesn't belong. henceforth, "the girl anachronism".

Haha ignoramus is an awesome word | Reviewer: Babs | 5/21/2007

personally, i felt the song was really deep and that it was about someone who feels our society is tragically corrupted.Plus if you read and thoroughly analyze her lyrics carefully it would seem as though deep inside her character feels lost and misplaced in our time, somewhat of what she, herself, calls a "girl anachronism". but thats just me.either way, i love her character in the music videos and concerts, that way she expresses her music with the toy piano, piano/keyboard and her lyrics too. not to mention brian viglione, they're so compatible! as for that eleven year old, you're just plain emo! and don't express your love for a royal class music such as this if you don't even understand it. i suppose with you're brain capacity i should put it this way, shut the hell up!
