The Reviews about The Tain (Parts I, II, III, IV, V) (page 1/1)
------ performed by The Decemberists

The Tain: Chicago | Reviewer: Karin | 11/5/2007

I saw them play on July 15th (16th?) in Chicago at Grant Park, when the played with the CSO, and they played this song in FULL. It was the most amazing, inspiring concert I've ever been to, and it was drizzling a little, which only added to the mood.

The lyrics, music, and varying energy of this song are all so impressive for modern music. The Decemberists are definitely something special and very different.

I also saw them in concert (4/5/07) They rocked so hard. i also got to meet them all and take pics. i froze up unfortunately and only told them a fraction of what i meant to but they were so so nice. i hung out with three of them for a good 30 minutes and just talked, it was great.

o yeh and this song.... sadly they didnt sing it at the show i went to (they played the island in its entirety however)
still to this day one of my favorite songs by them. if you like GOOD music that has substance and staying power, look no further. this is a good song to intro some one to the decemberists.

PS check my youtube vids from the show. user name : Mlanke

Fantastic, of course! | Reviewer: Rachel | 4/11/2007

Does this band have a bad song? I had the chance to see them last Tuesday, and they are wonderful. They opened with The Tain, and it seems that the song is even more chilling live than it is recorded. Shocking, eh?
It's almost offensive at first, and so shocking for those who aren't used to The Decemberists's bold usage of words and phrasings. If I ever get the chance to see these guys in concert again, I'll be sure to jump at it, and any of you out there should as well, no matter where your seats are. Also, check out this video (from the concert I attended): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bgxijo6Cauo just a little bit of humor!

Best song eveeeer!!!! | Reviewer: luigi | 4/4/2007

I saw them play this live this past saturday, it was the second time i saw them live. I met all of them after the show and talked for a couple hours. Chris Funk hugged me and told me he loved me. I got pics with them, www.myspace.com/fuckingpinos

Very Nicely Done | Reviewer: Kelly | 2/28/2007

Good job with the lyrics...how do you know who is singing what when it is going back and forth from woman to daughter, soldier to chaplain, etc.? Just wondering, I can't tell.

The Tain | Reviewer: Matthew | 2/10/2006

This song is an epic, 18 minute, adventure sung by the wonderful Colin Meloy. The lyrics: Amazing
The vocals: Amazing
The instruments: Amazing
The song overall: Inforkingcredible
I love this song, you should too.
