people just want something to truly relate to. if people don't rely on music to save or help themselves, then they goddamn rely on drugs. This world has way too many perspectives, for people to argue about, amongst eachother. If this song really is about drugs, then it is one of the most understandable combination of music, and drugs.

well apparently jimi hendrix put a ten strip under his bandana when he would play so im not sure about the whole not being able to play. but on the other hand ive never eaten acid and been able to play tennis let alone play a fuckin guitar so i have no idea.

If you simply do your research then you will realize that the beatles couldn't have writen this while on LSD. The way these drugs work is what your doing at the time you take them will afect what you feel, for example if your running then you'll feel pumped and energized but if you lets say for no particular reson, writing a song then you'll be calm, in a good mood or maybe frusturated, but still thinking and thats when halusinations start, memories, flash backs, recuring dreams, and you begin to see sounds (screwing up your rythm) and smell touch (Making palying instruments rather tricky). You wont be able to control youself and certainly be unable to write a song which requires patients and consentration. Also if they got any ideas for the song while high then they'd forget it almost as soon as it came and only remember the feelings. LSD incapasitates you making you have burst of sensations that make no sense.

The words that are capitalized are the words that SHOULD be capitalized. Nothing more. If you knew anything about titling, you'd know that.

Gee I wonder it kind of makes you think of EYES. Lucys eyes. And he just imagines things that involves her. Did you ever think that maybe there just screwing with you capitolizing only the L the S and the D?

It's about getting high. Seriously, it's a great song but it's about drugs. I live in Australia and we actually have this recommended as a text to study for imaginative journeys. You know why? I'm off to go smoke a joint, peace

i don't think your opinion of this piece really matters to anyone.
good artists make you think when you listen to their songs.
unlike Rihanna who goes out and tells you that she's cheating on her boyfriend in her music, the Beatles have a certain magic to their lyrics.. and that's why they're so great and that's why they make more money than you.
so you can continue to sit on the computer and argue about whether this song is about santa clause not giving bad children gifts or you can go do something more useful with your life.

i have heard a lot of theories about what this song is about. The first one i heard was the LSD version then the others. personally i think that back in the day a lot of great musicians did a lot of drugs, just look at Jimi Hendrix (although he was fantastic) so what if they did. Regardless wheather it was about LSD or not i dont care, its a good song. Although i personally prefer the version with his kid.

Second, [for the people who've posted debating] does it really matter what the song is about? Hasn't it spoken to each of us in different ways? Maybe john was on LSD, maybe Julian did draw a picture. We all have our own opinions on what it's about. Seriously why argue/debate about it? It's pointless. And for those who think that the song itself is pointless, that's you opinion. Everyone has their own taste of what rules and what doesn't. If you don't like the song... don't listen to it, if it comes on during a movie or on the radio turn it off, stop complaining about it. The song is based on a picture julian lennon drew when he was younger. the band wrote the song based on the picture BUT named it lucy in the sky with diamonds to boost up social status of the band & incorporate it with drug use. hell it was the fucking sixties. the bloody picture is on display in a museum an hour away from my house with a detailed description of why it's named 'lucy in the sky with diamonds'. i mean fuck

frankly, i really don't care. my brother told me it was an LSD influenced song, but if he's wrong, then i really don't care. i just like the song. you guys up there fighting about it have issues...so just chillax and enjoy the song! :)
