If I Fell | Reviewer: Cornelius | 1/15/08

No, they're not singing to a lesbian, at least the Beatles aren't in the original. In the line "love me more than her" they are saying "love me more than she did" meaning the original or previous girlfriend. Basically, the song is about a guy who is falling in love again after a sad or messy breakup and is still feeling hurt and insecure about giving his heart away. So he is asking the new girl to not hurt him and really love him, not just artificially be attracted to him (the holding hands reference at the beginning of the song) and if she promises to do that then he will let himself fall in love with her. Very romantic and quite melancholy, fantastic song.

"Love me more than her" by that lhe means love me more than the girl that he was previously in love with. Hence "cuase I've been in love before...."

Now, in the movie across the universe, the meaning is suppose to change since its a girl singing. There, "love me more than her", would mean love me more than she loves/loved you. And yes, that movie was good and they did a good job singing, but there is no way I'd listen to the soundtrack over the original beatles songs.

This song highlights the early Lennon/McCartney writings. It is a sweet love song but it still has a fast pace. McCartney goes above and beyond in his singing. Just a very good song altogether.

they are talking about the girl that they were in love with before and now they fell in love with a new girl and would want her to love them more than the other girl loved them... it's very confusing

I think in that phrase "love me more than her" it means "love me more than (she does)"..... rather than "love me more than (you love her)". i wondered the same thing when i first heard it but i think for it to make sense you have to change the emphasis of the subject in the sentence.... i think...

anyway, wasnt across the universe an amazing film. ive had the soundtrack playing on repeat for weeks

great. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/23/07

dude, she's singing it to a MAN. beacause she is saying that he should love her more than he loved another girl.

anyways, this is an amazing song. it you don't like it, you must be seriously in-freaking-sane.
