I will give my point of view in a religios way, not becuase I actuelly believe thats it's about that, but just to cover all sides of the text. Some people may know deep inside that's it's a lie, but they keep scaring each other and the next generation (therefore the titel Rebellion because thats the thing that is needed for a revolution of thinking in sins) Religion is made of peoples fear! nothing else. "every time you close your eyes" - your sins surround and defeats you. "lies, Lies," can mean both that the sins is lies or that the person thinks of his/her lies in the past. "Hidin' from your brothers underneath the covers, come on hide your lovers underneath the covers." - this is about hiding your love for your "brothers". Your friends family or other people of the world. It's about hiding yourself behind a straight line made of god. a strict way who nobody can live with. I agree | Reviewer: Not Anonymous | 7/22/07 I agree with SL, anonymous, and also anonymous on their understanding of this song even though anonymous' one seem to be very personal and there seems to be a moral value that I could not adjust to an accident situation. I tend to think, as anonymous wrote, that people believe in a bunch of lies that bring the society to upgrade endlessly (Hence the title). Constant evolution would prevent the society from disappearing just as quickly as a man dies with no water. It would be thus important to scare the upcoming generation and avoid their stopping the course of evolution. Then people would think they could then beat the time and uplive it, but as supposedly exposed in this song, it would make actually no sense : Rational understanding of the situation would bring us to seize the day and, hidden from our peers, that could not understand such a "misbehavior" , cherish our loves with no further aspiration concerning the future (the only place where it's possible to act so is in the secrecy of our dreams, because the social pressure demands to hide that kind of phantasy underneath the covers). XTC in particular, die faster without water, scare your sons daughters, find your lovers, everytime u close ur eyes.
