I hardly think it matters what the song is about as long as it means something to the person who wrote it. Obviously TAI isn't going to tell everyone their personal stories about every song they write, it would take all the fun out of listening. If the song means something to everyone who hears it, the songwriter has truly accomplished something. This "prep" and "realized he wasn't supposed to be a prep" business is simply ridiculous. Guess what. If you were to stereotype me, I would be a prep without a doubt, but I love The Academy Is and bands like them, and all sorts of alternative music. Quit stereotyping, it's a waste of energy. That is what this song is about not a relationship othet than the fact that his exgf was a prep too. But that really didn't bug him.
