"Tribute is the best song ever!" - actually Tribute is not the greatest song in the world, unfortunately Jack and Kyle couldn't remember the greatest song in the world, this is just a tribute.

As for comments about which song this song refers to, I think the idea of this song is supposed to be very similar to the song "The Devil Went Down To Georgia", but the idea is that they played a magical song on that night that can be only played at a certain time, and it just so happened that was the right time just as satan appeared and asked them to play the greatest song in the world, but afterwards the magic was gone so they actually couldn't remember exactly what they'd played, the only thing they could do is write a tribute vaguely about what they remembered happened, and even at the end of the music video the old granny which is supposed to be satan takes the tribute CD, obviously so the world doesn't know what the greatest song is and can't use it to defeat satan.

Song Meanings | Reviewer: Kessel Run Entertainment | 8/5/12

Hey guys personally I don't think anyone's got it entirely right. First off, song meanings are always missinterpreted, and many artists prefur not to share the exact meaning of songs in order to allow listeners to form their own attachment & meanings.

But thats not the argument... back to that. Tribute is about the greatest song in the world, originally written by the D but no one will ever hear it but them & the Devil. Beezleboss is a prequel song intended to be "The Greatest Song in the World" but it in itself is also a tribute to the greatest song. & As far as Starway goes the D was making a nod to that song, giving acknowledgement to all the D's wisdom of the histories of ROCK!

Besides if we look closly to all the D material they change the context of jokes & songs for they're own means... i.e. In the original album Jack teaches Kage about cockpush-ups, but in the movie Kyle teaches Jack...

"Think about it man... only the D makes non-stop rocking possible!"

Please Love Tenacious D! | Reviewer: TheBritishRockeress!?!? | 6/7/12

I don't really care if any of you idiots don't like Tenacious D's song Tribute. I may only be 13 years old and a blonde, but i know one thing; Tribute is the best song ever! And if you are all soooooo frickin dumb NOT to relise that, you need to get glasses and a new pair of ears!

Jack and Kyle under pressure | Reviewer: becks | 4/28/12

I agree with stie. Ok, it doesn't matter whats what really, this is a great song. Tenaciuos D are excellent at creating songs that actually take the piss out of Rock and sound as good as if not better than many Rock groups! It is of general opinion, including mine that this song is a tribute to 'Stairway to heaven'which is judged to be the greatest song in the World (it's just a matter of opinion). When they say they couldn't remember the greatest song in the World may simply refer to the fact that under pressure/fear (the beast had threatened to eat their souls)they simply forgot it therefore played the first thing that came into their heads (a tribute).

wow | Reviewer: Slybuscus | 2/16/12

may i say to the second replier that you have some bad grammar and tenacious D was not referring to every good song in the world, in my opinion rap music is bad and i personally like rock but if you are going to say that there referring to every good song in the world you can go fuck yourself your a little bitch who complains about this. Tenacious D were referring to there song that they sang on one faithful night. there the hero's of our past and future, not so come at me bro.

OPINION | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/5/12

Some of you state that this song is about "stairway to heaven" but according to the lyrics that is wrong, even though in some way this song is a tribute to it since they in the long version have a guitar solo from "stairway to heaven". Therefor this song is a tribute to at least 2 songs, where one of them is "stairway to heaven"

But in the lyrics they also state "Just a matter of opinion." in the last verse. Then this song might also mean that the greatest song in the world is whatever song you think is the greatest song in the world, as long as it's not this song or "stairway to heaven" since they are excluded through the lyrics saying "the song we sang on that fateful night it didn't actually sound".

Tribute | Reviewer: Nickhyl subba | 1/2/12

U all got it wrong.
This song is just a tribute nd they [tanasious d] just want 2 say dat every song made is the greatest song.
They just explained it through the song.
1st they just tried 2 think by looking at each other bt they could not remember the best song in the world so they sang their own song as it came 2 their heads at first bt in the middle they say it is just a 'tribute' for all the songs ever made nd afterwards they chase the devil by saying they are men but rock.
And then they finally chase the devil by mocking him.
Thats it

"the d f****** owns" is wrong. In The original version of "Tribute" by Tenacious D, from the band's self-titled show on HBO. As seen here, on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BH35ahbWO_E, at 6.03, kyle plays "Starway to Heaven".

Ya.. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/8/11

You are all wrong, Tribute cannot possible be about the movie because the movie was made after the song. I don't think that it was actually based off of any song at all but was just simply created or they had thought of a great song previously but somehow forgot it.

Just saying | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/30/11

Tribute references to 'We are the D/Beelzeboss' in The pick of destiny film, they play the song and defeat the devil, but not with the song, Jack black deflects the devils magic back at him with his guitar, however at the end of the film, Jack black and Kyle misinterpret that they defeated the devil with their rock, and state it must have been the best song ever coz it beat the devil, but they can't remember it.

Come on, guys | Reviewer: Nasty Mister Monket | 10/27/11

Stop arguing about it. No need to get angry about other people's opinions. This is mine:

They managed to beat the Devil at the rock-off, so they believe they played the best song in the world, Beelzeboss. But, according to the Devil, they lost, but the Devil's lightning bounced off JB's guitar and he was sent back to Hell.

After the credits, where they smoke the "Bong of Destiny" they cannot remember the "best song in the world" so they sing about it in tribute.

There is no best song in the world. They believe it was Beelzeboss, but they lost with Beelzeboss.

Guys... | Reviewer: Ralph | 9/30/11

There is no "best song in the world". That's the whole sense of the song! In the lyrics they say that THEY (Tenacious D) made the best song in the world, but can neither remember nor prove it. The song has nothing to do with the movie.

the d f****** owns | Reviewer: jerrytheman | 8/18/11

the d is f****** pro. you are F****** idiots if you think the song they play is stairway to heaven coz it ISNT!!!!!! listen:
1. the devils ask if they angels BECAUSE they are pro.
2. there is NO part of stairway to heaven in here.
3. stairway to heaven IS NOT the best song in the world. it was considered ages ago but it isnt.
4. none of the versions have any part of stairway to heaven in them! NONE!!!!!!

in my oppinion i believe the best song is beelzeboss! NOT STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN!!! noone likes a piece of SH** song that is 10 minutes long

period!

Heres what is is | Reviewer: stie | 5/5/11

Guys the song they talk about is Stairway to Heaven by Led Zeplin. heres why i think so
1. Stairway to Heaven is considered the best song in the world
2. the devil asks if they were angels
3.The songs sounds a bit like stairway(even the solo)
4. In one version they play a smal bit of stairway
