Breaking chains and destiny.....have spent half my life trying to free her....damaged but not dead. This song whispers the longings of every captive woman, regardless of the source of the chains.

Recipe: You take an important subject matter; add a wonderful lyricist, incredible musicians and top it off with two excellent vocalists. Mix it all together and you get “Woman in Chains.”
Imagined context | Reviewer: Matthew | 9/28/2007
The only song I can think of on par with this in terms of soul stirring would be 'Siren' by This Mortal Coil'.
When I hear this song I imagine that the protagonist is struggling to come to terms with the reality of prostitution, perhaps in a foreign culture he encountered during travels. The victims justify it, yet it remains a tragedy robbing all involved of parts of their humanity.
Masterpiece! | Reviewer: Luis Hernandez | 9/4/2007
Incredible song; everything about it is awesome! the lyrics of course, about man's repression of womankind, are true to heart and so accurate. Also the music and arrangement are wonderful. Every sound comes together and the vocals as well, to make it a beautiful and hauntingly emotional and very moving song. It still to this day brings tears down my face. Roland's(the composer and lead singer) voice together with Oleta Adams are so moving(Oleta is the jazz/blues singer that also is known for "Get Here If You Can". Also... a bonus to the track that most people don't know is the guest appearance of Roland's good friend Mr. Phil Collins who played the drums in the song, his drumming in it was exceptional as always. Anyway... definately one of my all time favorite songs. Hope you can appreaciate and enjoy it as much as I do. Men, lets always remember to love and appreciate all the women in our lives and give them the respect they deserve.
To Tears too | Reviewer: Marcus | 7/22/2007
Even if I don't understand all the words of the song (I'm french), it brings me to tears : how is it possible to write a so beautifull song ? I qualify it as "quite perfect". I'm a Tears for Fears and OMD fan, and so many years after the beginning of these two "bands", I still find emotion and admiration when I lesson to their songs. I saw OMD a few month ago in Brussel : happy again !!!!

This is my favorite song. It has been my favorite song since I was a young girl. This song became a self fufilling prophecy for my mother who was in a very abusive relationship. When she was in it I told her to listen to this song. Every word is so true to her story. She was a woman in chains for the whole relationship. She passed away in 1999 due to a sudden heart attack, and the chains were broken. She was set free and when I listen to this song, I honor her with it. I have listened to it many times and I still cry when I hear it.
Sensitivity | Reviewer: jochiel | 6/30/2007
The song is indeed very emotional, even people with a a heart of stone could be moved by it. For me the meaning does not only signifies the sufferings of a woman, it signifies the real and deep sensitivity of men. hearing all of this detailed emotion of a woman from a man, means a lot.

Very true. I a abused woman living in chains. To me thats what the song describes. A woman in chains to a man who out of fear can't leave him. My eyes to were of steel as well. You have to in order to hide the pain. Its speaks from the heart of woman in pain and in abusive relationships. Such a beautiful song and so true to the lyrics.
God bless to writing such a great song.
