So True | Reviewer: Mia | 2/20/2008I am only 13 years old, but I have an amazing voice. My boyfriend and I live in a majorly white community(not together) with some of our black friends. I sang the hook of this song for our talent show. I also rapped the female part. We ended up winning the talent show.
This song speaks to me in so many ways. It baisically says "Black girls, you have been through so much, You have so much more to endure. You have to be tough, don't be pulled in by the influence that we aren't good enough. You be proud of what and where you came from." There's so much more this song says to me-" Look at Big Momma-96 years old, living in the original slave cabin from the 'times' TODAY, her own grandmother forced over here, she endured, and her daughter endured, and the same process for 4 generations. This is the 5th generation, so lets keep it going. Show them they brought us over here, so we're going to show them 'we are equal, and we can do so much as them'". I listen to this song every day to say, I know what I am going to do today- Live in the "BLACK GIRL PAIN"

certain lines within this song spoke to me especially... this world most of the time ignores the realities behind the images playing out the drama of life... we all make it as real as we can handle and end up disgusted with ourselves and each other.... thanks for telling little black girls to 'BE' without cowering apologies. My grandfather passed for 'white' to make life easier... My mother was never allowed to own her heritage and subsequently could not give her daughters any personal strength or pride. While there is no scientific basis for this concept of race, the idea has prevailed as a mores making society dance to it's selfish tune...that is sad.... My baby girl has African ancestry on both my and her father's side. You can believe that I intend to break the cycle and let her revel in all the beauty that she IS.
