of coarse it has to do with religion Serj is very spiritual and some of the lryics are ripped right out of the bible as a matter of fact what Jesus says on the cross...most of his songs are related to religion/spiritual. it doesn't have to be specifically about Jesus i think it is more about relating to that pain of being forgotten (forsaken) but the part that relates to religion is just part of the song what about the first part? the part about a girl putting on make up to hide the marks of her being beaten her hastily leaving the keys on the table...think about that part some more and you may find the meaning of the song. (could be a he but i assumed female =X)
and soadfan93, a true fan WOULD try to interpret it but a true fan would not argue about it, they said themselves that our lryics are open ended and open to interpretations to how YOU feel the song relates to you. stop arguing dweebs and take your own meaning, songs might mean something different to someone else, deal with it -.-

A self-righteous suicide - aka martyrdom - is found in every religion, no bible reference here. They've intermingled this concept with a little anger, a little melodrama, and of course religious allusions...
Yep... Teen angst. I like it.
I agree - religion | Reviewer: Jen | 9/24/09
Self Rightous suicide is when you give your life to save others. Not really wanting to get into a theological debate - but I have to agree this song is about religion. I also disagree about the lyrics not meaning anything - The absolutely do. That's why I love these guys.
uh? | Reviewer: Satan | 7/13/09
is fun, system of a down are fun, not serious, none of their lyrics are serious, they right them when theyre stoned lol --
You are pretty wrong, man. They wrote only few songs (I think it was even only one) when they were stones. All they lyrics are serious and have any meaning but different for all people and that's why all explanations here are right :)
Um... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/9/09
I am agnostic but this is a great song.To the guy who doesnt know what the keys are maybe its a weapon.Killing himself to go to heaven.Hint.The weapon is the key to heaven.I know that you dont go to heaven if you kill yourself but like you said.He needs gods approveal.
This is about religion. | Reviewer: Rachel | 7/9/09
I actually didn't know this song was about religion until today. I fell across Matthew 27:46. This chapter (27) explains the death of Jesus. In which the people of Jeruselem were mocking Jesus' beliefs in God stating that if he really is the son of God, surely God would save him. Matthew 27:46 explains what Jesus says while on the cross stating "About the ninth hour Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, "ELI, ELI, LAMA SABACHTHANI?" that is, "MY GOD, MY GOD, WHY HAVE YOU FORSAKEN ME?"....Get it? "Father, Father, why have you forsaken me? In your eyes forsaken me, in your thoughts forsaken me....the lyrics of this song are straight from the bible. Interesting find I had lol
Very Good | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/22/09
The song, in my opinion reflects religion and how it affects us. As the song says, "Hide the scars", as in mask what is true and keep taking the "beatings", in whatever form they may be, all the while thinking it is something else causing it. "Here you go create another fable", make a new lie, which could go with hiding scars with religion. "You wanted to", you chose what you do, and no God, no Religion says otherwise. And, the conflictions he has with Father, or God as some religions consider, on whether or not he should kill himself, though it is a clear contridiction of most religous beleifs, tearing him apart on why he cant do it. All the while he is wondering why the Angel's in Heaven can be so happy while he is not. This song is a good reflection on what Religion can do to people, the temporary escape from reality proves to be fatal, in the end.
huhm | Reviewer: Sammie | 5/14/09
i dont think its about Jesus, thats just you trying to find something in this song that has nothing to do with him, cant it just be about the pain he went threw and the struggles and maybe he wasnt the only one going threw it he knew, maybe some friend and one of them died, and the father been an angel like before said OR
its a song, that we wont fuiger out because, he is the only one who knows all what it means,
"Angels Deserve To Die" | Reviewer: Anonymously Anonymous | 5/12/09
Maybe he said "angels deserve to die" because he either thought his father was an angel, but betrayed him, so he should die. Or, he considered himself as an angel (because he never did any harm) and wanted to die because he couldn't handle the abuse any longer. One of the two perhaps. Furtherwise, this is a great song :]!
