That was almost 70% of the Armenian population at the time, almost 50% of today's Armenian population. The Turk's were disgustingly close to annihilating an entire race, the closest any nation's ever come to a successful ethnic purging. With this sort of success, how can you POSSIBLY say this was not a genocide? How could this not be an intentional exercise of national will? The Turks killed all Armenian men of fighting age, and then starved the women and children, sending them to concentration camps that didn't exist. This was intentional. There are quoted statements from Turkish commanders revealing this desire. It was planned. *"Is there genocide? No, hell no." Wrong, for the above stated reasons. *"Is there massacre? Yes. Both sides massacred each other." Massacred Turks? Right.... Only one group of Armenians resisted deportation during the entire operation, in a small city along the Russian border.
