i love this song and i get that it is saying that war isnt a game and lives shouldnt be thrown away like yesterday's trash. our government needs to support us instead of misleading us. B.Y.O.B. can mean several things. from bring your own bomb to be your own boss. but all of these point to a central meaning that our government is curropt. in short, awesome song.
fighting for...? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/13/09
I think that the song is saying that wars should not be fought needlessly, and that recently war has become just a political thing. Going to war should never, ever be a light decision based on the political side of matters; lives should never be sacrificed unless there is no option. I agree that most of the ads are geared towards the poor, and while this may seem unethical at first glance, and on some levels it is, consider that being in the army during peace time is a good way to support yourself and your family. Also, no matter what the ads, it is always YOUR OWN CHOICE. There are no more press gangs; propaganda is everywhere and people should be aware of it. I think that some presidents understand the cost of war better than others and that some are more suited than others. That said, bashing the president is funny until it turns to hate. He represents our country for the next 4 years. Let's hope we survive.

Its great that "System" are keeping up the Bob Dylan tradition of anti-war music. They are great musicians and this song has power and originality. I agree war solves nothing, but I have one question to the pen and paper people. How would you have solved the Hitler problem?

it's about war. it's about poverty. it's also about how it's THE POOR fighting these wars while the rest of our upper middle class/ rich society and their frickin over privileged kids get to stay here and party while the poor class is on the other side dying on a daily basis so hey, we can have a party and a good time! I'm not saying that a well-meaning upper class rich woman or man wouldnt volunteer but in the end, where would you rather be, bringing your own beer or bringing your own bombs. WAR SOLVES NOTHING.
BYOB meaning. | Reviewer: The Guy | 7/18/09
B.Y.O.B. (Bring Your Own Bombs) is about the government's recruitment strategies. First of all, the government targets poor people. Second, In all of the recruitment vids you see they all say that the war is like a party in the desert. And System is saying if the president wants to have a war, why doesn't he just fight it himself? Why have millions people lose their lives for a conflict that could be fought with a pen and paper?
whooo! LINKIN PARK AND SOAD!!!!!! | Reviewer: wouldn't u like 2 know. | 6/15/09
whoo for Linkin Park. i have a strange addiction to them at the mo, well, any way, yeah! this is a brilliant song. trying to learn it on guitar. it's fun to try to learn, but a little difficult for me. (haven't been playing very long). and it's true about poloticians not fighting their own wars. if they start them they should fight in them and finish them!!! i bet if you gave the damn pen-pushing poloticians a gun they wouldn't know what to do!!!
(whoo for SOAD!!!!!! PEACE OUT DUDES!!!!)

'B.Y.O.B. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/17/09
I think B.Y.O.B. stands for Bring Your Own Bombs, rather than Bring Your Own Beer, as some people think, it's obvious it's about war so it's more logical for it to be Bring Your Own Bombs.
Plus, I always hear "Victorious Victorias, kneel..." as in the name Victoria, because if you think about it, they sing "Barbarisms by Barbaras", so it links with the two names, and it does have the extra syllable that Victoria has and victories doesn't...'
i've got their album and so all the lyrics in the booklet and its 'victorious victories'
here's the thing... | Reviewer: Daniel | 5/12/09
linkin park is ma favorite band but they aint got nothing on System of a Down!!! this song kicks the most ass!!!. Oh by the way B.Y.O.B for this song stands for Battle Your Own Battle. i know cuz i saw it in an interview with SOAD. They are saying "why dont presidents fight the war, why do they always send the poor". The poor are telling the presidents to go fight their own battle =)
