Amazing | Reviewer: Kate | 4/17/09
This song is amazing. I discovered it 2 days ago and it give me chills every time i listen to it. It is so rare to find artists that have true meaning and inspiration in their lyrics.
" And in all my life I don't know that I've ever felt to alive."
Switchfoot, Keep Rockin | Reviewer: Allie | 1/21/08
This song is abosolutely amazing. Have you guys watched the video? The song is ispirational but the video brings it down to a fun level that anyone can enjoy, even those who are not as religious. I've loved Switchfoot for a long time, ever since I listened to a few tracks on one of my dad's old cds. I don't think I've heard a SF song that I didn't like. They're the musicians that make you want to hug them. This kind of music is 10 times better than all of the rap stuff that's been so popular lately. Songs like Awakening are so much easier on the ears and they have such positive messages while the popular music as of now just fills teens' ears with bad language and bad messages. Thanks so much to Switchfoot, Relient K, Hawk Nelson, and so many other Christian bands that continually put messages out in their terrific songs to inspire and encourage everyone. I'm not sure where I would be without all of you.
Deep and Amazing! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/15/08
I think this song is absolutely awesome! Not only is it great and has a good melody, but it also has deep meaning to it. I've been a fan of Switchfoot's music for a very long time, and I must say that this song is probably some of Switchfoot's best work.
Whenever I listen to the words in Switchfoot's music, I always find meaning to their music, and with each new song I listen to I feel even more inspired.
Keep up the great work, Switchfoot!
Quite the song | Reviewer: Levi | 8/27/07
I was brought to tears at the very first few seconds of this track; there's something about the screamed melody (that, may i say, is a much more pleasing scream than those executed in heavy metal songs) that sums up the whole song. It's so full of emotion, strength, joy, and what-have-you. The rest of the song echoes this flawlessly, down to the final note.
I'll be listening to this for a while, taking inspiration from it.
Under the stars.... | Reviewer: Janet | 6/9/07
I love your comment about this song being great live, under the stars. I'm going to a SF concert in August...it's an open-air venue, at night, so weather permitting it will be under the stars.
And I bet they'll play "Awakening."
I get chills just thinking about it.
"Live life like you know what your leaving" Pretty much sums it up | Reviewer: Darlene | 12/25/06
This is Jon Foreman & Co at their best, in my opinion. Here you hear deep and moving lyrics coupled flawlessly with some of their best head bobbing, finger snapping music that's eva been pumped out of an amp.
A/N...maybe i shouldn't say, 'pumped.' The beautiful melody here is something that you would expect to be coaxed out of an amp, something that Jon Foreman and his crew seem to be quite good at......
The song took my attention and ran with it within the opening seconds, when listeners hear Jon belting out the melodey line with such aching heart and soul that we know he has more than just monetary gain invested here. If particular lyrics in the first verse doesn't get to you ("The first star that i saw last night was a headlight in a man made sky, but, man made never made our dreams collide.")Then the heartwrenching and painfully simple chorus will ("Here we are now with the falling sky and the rain, we're awakening. Here we are now with the desperate youth and the pain, we're awakening. Maybe its called ambition, you've been taling in your sleep about the dream, we're awakening.")
To me, 'Awakening' is the heart that pumps life and energy into the rest of the album, even more so than the title track. Unfortunatly, our world is messed up, and not something that a little child who, 'wakes up kicking and screaming' wants to see, but Jon also reminds listeners in a carefully placed bridge to, 'Live life like you know what you're leaving.'
It would be incredible to hear this song played live, under the stars...
IN all, like i said, this is traditional Switchfoot, more in the spirit of something they would have written back in, 'the early years.' However, 'Awakening' has a cleaner feel to it, something i can't place. Its truley a wondeful song from the heart and soul of one of this industries best song writers, and i hope will be a personal staple for the band in years to come.
thank you for listening to my mind spew.
urs in christ and in switchfoot...darlene
