The background music, melody and lyrics combine wonderfully. The simple guitar riff works because the melody is fairly elaborate for a pop song. Bass anchors it down and drums are also pretty simple, but add emphasis when needed. As with many good songs, the lyrics are ambiguous. Obviously something went wrong, perhaps romantic infidelity, but it's not very clear. Also not clear what is ending. Is it the strong love affair or is it the "devil's" infidelity. The song doesn't say and different listeners will interpret it differently. I will say this, these lyrics help explain why neither the group nor the 2 main members have recorded since 1997. Ref.
