This is the song that made me look for other songs by Steven Curtis Chapman. Awesome lyrics. So encouraging in times of difficulty. God's ways are indeed higher than ours.
Another song of his in this vein is "sometimes he comes in the clouds". And so even "if my eyes grow dim with tears of pain|This hope I have will not be washed away|'Cause my soul is resting on Your higher ways"
Thanks Steve
Faith in the Hard Times--a review of "Higher Ways," by Steven Curtis Chapman | Reviewer: Joshua Black | 3/25/07
This is one of the most awesome songs that Steven has written on trusting in God when we don't understand what He's doing. I just wish it was much more popular with his fans.
God sees the bigger picture, He has everything under control--even though it may not be going the way He had commanded, it will never get out of His hand. Yes, God allows tragedies, calamities, and heartbreaks, but God does so only for our good, if we repent. Romans 8:28 says that God works all things together for good--but only to them that love God. Do you love God?
Here's how you know: Jesus said, "If you continue in My word, then you are My disciples indeed; and you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." John wrote, "Dear children, do not let anyone lead you astray. He who does what is right is righteous, just as he is righteous. He who does what is sinful is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil's work. No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God's seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. This is how we know who the children of God are and who the children of the devil are: Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of God; nor is anyone who does not love his brother." (1 John 3:7-10)
Have you looked at God's Law to know what sin is, that you might cease from the works of the devil? Have you repented of your sins? Are you born again? Were you once a child of the devil who has now become a child of God, or are you still a child of the devil (see John 8:44)? http://www.examineyourself.com
God bless.
