The Reviews about The Beginning is the End is the Beginning (page 3/ 4)
------ performed by Smashing Pumpkins

Gettin' High ? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/6/08

I agree, that this version of the song is alot better than the original. As to what this song is actually about, I have a different opinion. I picture a drug dealer. Addressing a celebrity he once knew before she became famous. She was once associated with him, but left her old life behind. When she comes to the revelation that the fame and bright lights weren't all that she thought they were, she returns to her former drug dealing acquaintence.

Apocalypse | Reviewer: Momomo(: | 9/25/08

Huh, I can't help but think about the novel The Road by Cormac McCarthy. This definitely reminds me of that novel.

This song is referring to the apocalypse, and this idea is greatly supported by the title. The beginning of the end is the beginning of another life or world or universe. "Is it bright where you are?" is referring to the kingdom of heaven ("and now the kingdom comes"). The lyrics also speak of the unification of heaven and earth -- "Time has stopped before us
The sky cannot ignore us <-- God and His people
No one can separate us." <-- unification right there

I could probably go on for a very long time to support this idea, but I don't feel like writing an essay >>" But the idea fits perfectly within the lyrics. What the singer's comments on this idea should be taken into further consideration, though.

Watchmen | Reviewer: Streltsy | 9/19/08

I've just been looking this song up lately due to its use in the trailer for the upcoming WATCHMEN movie (March 2009). I haven't read the graphic novel itself yet, but of course plan to do so before the movie hits theaters. That said, I think the tone and style of this song fit really well with the story's plot and setting. A great song.

Batman | Reviewer: Tom | 8/27/08

This song was originally written for Batman and Robin, and I think it applies to batman specifically. Batman himself has two personalities in his body, Bruce Wayne and his alter ego. The conversation point is valid, but we know who both parties are if we apply the surrounding info. I'm pretty sure Bruce is talking to Batman, waiting to see if he'll ever get to be just Bruce again. As long as the world is still consumed by hate, Batman will have to exist, but it seems like a hopeless battle and Batman is thinking of giving up,and if he does, Bruce and Batman can just watch the world consumed by its pain.

Ambivalence? | Reviewer: Begiend | 8/25/08

Well, the title sums it up. And about it being a conversation, I think the dude singing it is at the end of the world, and whoever he is talking to is at the beginning. Hence "Is it bright where you are?".
Or maybe he's stuck in limbo, between the beginning and ending-"Time has stopped before us"
Or maybe he was just too drunk on pumpkin juice, and blurted out whatever came to his head.
Whatever it was, awesome match for the Watchmen Teaser!
P.S. The Big Crunch idea is sort of in the dumpster for now because scientists have now noticed an acceleration in the expansion curve, but who knows what Dark Energy's capable of.

Amazing | Reviewer: WatchMeAsIExplode | 8/10/08

I think this is probably one of the better songs to be put with a movie. I heard the original and it wasn't all that good in my opinion, but this song and this version is just amazing. I love the beat, and the tone of it. I play it constantly and I've honestly fallen in love with this song.
I love reading the reviews everyone has posted and the theories behind this song. I'm not sure yet what to make of the lyrics, but I do know they are amazing and very impactful!

Different Idea? Are We Overthinking This? | Reviewer: com34x | 8/7/08

I'm not totally sure I agree with the rest of these reviews. I'm not sure where everyone is getting some idea about the cycles of the universe here. Some of the lyrics do not work for that. The song uses the words "I" and "We" It's like a conversation or interaction between two groups of people or things. I also get the idea that they are talking about some sort of balance. Good/Evil or Creation/Destruction? "In your darkest hour, I hold secrets flame" One thing coming to the rescue of another or being dependent on eachother? Also, in response to the Universe Theory. We aren't completely sure of that yet. The Big Crunch is just a theory right now. Creation is actually accelerating so the universe is no where near a crunch anytime soon. We would still be in the beginning process after the explosion. It is an interesting idea though. Once we know more about Dark Matter and Dark Energy we can determine if this theory is valid. Point being though is there is a lot that human beings do not understand. Including this song lol. All we know is this song is awesome and fits The Watchmen trailer perfectly.

It's about Batman | Reviewer: Sandwichboy | 8/7/08

The song was written by Corgan specifically for the film Batman and Robin, about Batman in particular. The whole "bringing something back that has been dead or forgotten for a long time." is his reason for being, really.

the end of a universe is a beggining of a another | Reviewer: emizco | 8/4/08

the lyrics "i am a master of a nothing place of recoil and grace" means "i am a inteligent mind of a Universe that is not
hing (because it will eventually end and not exist) of recoil (could mean destruction of the universe) and grace (which means a beautiful beggining of the universe)

A slightly different idea | Reviewer: Wonderstein | 7/26/08

I think the first two lines of the song give a sense of jaded hope to the rest of the song. It's all about bringing something back that has been dead or forgotten for a long time.

just my 2 nickels.
