the lyric is world. i have the booklet in my hand as i type this. the logic for both words makes sence because of the lines in the song but it is world. please dont argue and buy the album and read what it says. since its a heavy song and its hard to hear the lyrics it sounds as both so its explainable why people whould mix thiis up

But he is not talking about All of mankind being useless. He is talking about himself being useless and full of pain because of all of the people he sees around him. i do not see absolute references to evolution. following the meaning of the song, "worm" does not fit. also, m to b (worm > before), the m would be more pronounced. the last time he says it is closest, but not close enough for "worm".

the song is about humanity. more precisely, humanity's inhumanity, and our individual lack of control over the whole. we are cattle. we are all part of the problem. we are one of humanity before we are an individual. society gets away with the most heinous of crimes, but the individual is the one who is obscene. the individual seeks comfort and protection from society, and MUST, but society uses and abuses them. a person may be good, but they are still part of the whole, and the whole is a monster. a heartless creature that stains, wounds, devours. its actions do not make sense. it functions on a primitive pack instinct. each of us shares this primitive instinct. (which explains why public speaking is terrifying: too many eyes on you at once means you are the prey.) each of us is a prepared sacrifice, which society will burn at its slightest whim. the end justifies the means, and the means are for no other reason than to delay that end. why are we here? for no reason at all. the world would be a better place if we were not.

I think it's kind of ironic that he says:

"Hold your breath,
Listen"

Right before he sings the verse that everyone has been arguing about, (whether it says world or worm.)

It's almost like he anticipated it, and I'm sure that's what a lot of people did, they held their breath and listened to the next verse trying to figure out which word he used.

just like marilyn manson's use of the word worm in his songs it is based on evolution before there was ever any creaters we were all amibas ( thats spelled wrong) that is how evolution started out ending with us so there for i am a worm before i am a man i was a creature before i could stand is evoulution summed up. btw who really cares becaue the song is kickass.

It's WORLD because it's in the SLIPKNOT Lyrics booklet and it has to do with evolution. Worm makes sense in terms of creatures (the next line) but world, evolution, Darwin, he's talking world...Ape's don't walk upright hence "before I could stand"

btw, im a creationist but I'm pretty sure that's their belief and thus these lyrics that are laced with evolution

To those who argue that it should logically be 'worm' based on the line 'I was a creature before I could stand', one would hope that YOU were your parents world before you were a man and that by Darwin's Theory of Evolution humans as a race were creatures before we were 'men'.
Also, who says the song has to follow logic anyway? The line 'I wear you like a stitch, yet I'm the one who's hurt' doesn't make sense anyway, if you are hurt you WOULD wear a stitch.

To all the retards out there, 1/6 sites have the chorus as 'worm'. Also, I'd reckon that the booklet of lyrics from THE FUCKING GROUP would have the proper lyrics anyway. Justin, you are so right, Slipknot & Disturbed are awesome.

Man, its world who ever the fuck thinks it is worm their all wrong. I been a fan of slipknot forever and listened to this song lots and lots of times the people who thinks it is worm are all wrong lol. Its sounds so gay with worm haha!! I was a worm before I was a man guys ovesley its all wrong.

For all you pseudo-Slipknot Fans who claim that Corey says "worm" go buy the original cd support THE BAND open the damn booklet and READ the F@#%ING lyrics. It crearly says WORLD. And go see some live performances so you can listen it there crearly.

Ok I have listened to this song SOOO many times... over and over and over and over and over... and every single time I hear WORLD, plus I looked ALL over the Internet and every site says WORLD also I own the album this song is on and in the lyric booklet IT SAYS WORLD!!! ... Its worm guys. I'm reading all this and I put the song on just to see what it was and it's worm. Sound's like world but its not.. Anyway's its a kick ass song. I love slipknot and Psyhosocial is one of the best song's sence this one in my opinion. ( I know bad spelling but you get the idea ) But who care's what he say's really. Like I said its an awesome song and I wouldn't care if it said anything.
