On the subject of evolution | Reviewer: VeryShady | 3/29/14

We did not come from apes, nor worms. That is not what evolution is.
We as humans have adapted to the world differently than apes, as noted by our differences, however we shared the same ancestor until we adapted to our environments, as noted by are similarites.

if evolution is real then there are no more apes | Reviewer: doesntbelieveinevolution | 4/8/13

You guys really believe in evolution eh? If evolution was real then there are no more apes, there are no more worms in this world we live in. All worms or apes should've turned into a human being, the song isn't about evolution. The song is stating about a different matter but I can't discuss it here :)

WORM | Reviewer: Friedrich Nietzsche | 3/30/12

It's not's WORM. I was a worm before I was a man.

It's Nietzsche 101.

You have made your way from worm to man, and much in you is still worm. Once you were apes, and even now, too, man is more ape than any ape.... The overman is the meaning of the earth.

satanism | Reviewer: the lost | 12/29/11

if i were to say i'd say it represents satanism and reality "i am a world before i am a man" and "i was a creature before i could stand" are general undrestandings of the satanic religion.

Evolution | Reviewer: JG | 11/9/11

I may be looking at it in a shallow way but I believe these lyrics are about evolution.

World comes before life, creature that evolved into a human first walked on all fours, before standing.

"My end
It justifies my means
All I ever do is delay
My every attempt to evade
The end of the road"

That's about survival, and how no action is truly altruistic (believe it or not, altruism and free will are most likely illusions). All your actions are done with the intention of passing your genes on to the next generation and surviving. Whatever means you use do this is justified because the end product is survival, although in terms of your own life you're just delaying death (the end of the road)

DRUGS?! | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/13/11

it's about drugs. Everything song is about drugs, so why wouldn't this be. Nevermind that it makes no f**kin sense. Nevermind that the lyrics point to other things as well. It's drugs, and it always will be my friends...

Nietzsche bitches | Reviewer: Friedrich | 5/6/11

"I teach you the overman. Man is something that shall be overcome. What have you done to overcome him? … All beings so far have created something beyond themselves; and do you want to be the ebb of this great flood, and even go back to the beasts rather than overcome man? What is ape to man? A laughing stock or painful embarrassment. And man shall be that to overman: a laughingstock or painful embarrassment. You have made your way from worm to man, and much in you is still worm. Once you were apes, and even now, too, man is more ape than any ape.... The overman is the meaning of the earth. Let your will say: the overman shall be the meaning of the earth.... Man is a rope, tied between beast and overman—a rope over an abyss … what is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end."

Meaning behind before I forget | Reviewer: Anonymous | 1/14/11

What this song means to me is a strong stance in the belief of evolution and how his humanity, including moral, has been shaped. Him saying that he was a world before he was a man and a creature before he could stand is basically saying that we all evolved from the same origin. First the world, the creature, than the man. To this discresion... We are all the same. We came from the same so no one person is better than the other.

Slipknot is AMAZING | Reviewer: punkrocker | 5/26/10

Possibly one of my favorite songs by Slipknot. This is one of the first songs i ever listened to by Slipknot, they were introduced to me by a friend. I fell in love with them almost instantly and it just so happend that the same friend informed me about the death of their bassist player Paul Gray. :(
R.I.P. Paul, you will be missed

Prediction of death | Reviewer: Ben | 5/24/10

If you listen carefully it's all about these guys being all messed up. Living a life of hell, playing fire with drugs. In anyone's language they should be dead and the end just doesn't come for them like you would think it should. But eventually it Will catch up with them

Before i forget | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/27/09

i think he's trying to say to stop putting yourself before other people. like wearing a stich but somebody else feels the pain, or wear you like a stain but somebody else is obscene.

and before i forget that!

world or worm? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/2/09

ok, first of all who cares. song rocks. it could be either really. maybe they believe in evolution. but there is a verse in the bible, psalm 22:6 "i am a worm, not a man." couldve been taken from that verse too, i doubt it, but possible, anyway, who cares. enjoy the music.

Before I Forget | Reviewer: Son of Corey | 7/9/09

Everytime the video comes on TV, my brain just seems to notice and go into a headbanging frenzy. Then I shout 'Gooooo!!!' really loud. I believe the verses highlight the problems people in this world suffer or claim to suffer. I believe Corey is then trying to say 'stop and think' and the chorus is saying 'put the world before yourself'. Stay (sic) maggots.

Subliminal Verses | Reviewer: Nick | 5/25/09

like some of you said that he says "Hold your breath, listen!"
and all these arguments if he says world, or worm. the album this is from is "The Subliminal Verses"" that is probably why he says, hold your breath, listen! like he anticipated everyone holding there breath and seeing if he says world or worm.

Great track, and I don't understand some of you | Reviewer: Vejiita | 5/11/09

Hello everyone!

This is a very good song, I have listened to it many times.

I think that these lyrics mean different for each of us. I cannot understand that why some of you try so desperately to search "the one and only meaning". I'm quite sure that there is no only meaning behind this song. It can mean various things for various people, depends on what you see into it. I especially think about for example the inner universe of a being, the "inner infinity" of us, when I listen to this track, but I also think about many more things. But I accept that this song means something else to someone else. So just get over with searching for the one true meaning of it, because in my opinion, there isn't one.
