Based on the controversial and 'semi autobiographical' 1965 propaganda novel The Painted Bird by Jewish orphan Jerzy Kosinski.
It tells the story of a young boy living in Eastern Europe in WW2 and his traumatic experiences journeying through various war torn villages and his fate at the hands of his nefarious custodians, many of whom indulge in bestiality , incest and malicious practice.
He encounters a sadistic bird keeper who paints one of his captured birds various colours and releases it, only later to be ripped to shreds by its own kind who see it as an intruder.
The line 'the flock will make you choke on this sadistic joke' is an appropriate appraisal here.
