the sound of silence | Reviewer: Michelle Schwimer | 11/8/2008
Funny how a song that was written so many years ago can relate to the times of today.Listening to the words makes me think of our latest Presidential election and how the people of this country were silent no more. No longer following the Republican neon lights. People all around the world speaking, listening, sharing no longer in the sound of silence.
truth about da world | Reviewer: nurul | 9/12/2008
first i heard this song around my age 10 ..my dad really luv it..and now i'm 20..this song wanna tell us what is lying inside the world..
People talking without speaking,
People hearing without listening,
People writing songs that voices never share
people are unexpctd..we never know what inside them..all are hidden...but life still goes on

No, I don't believe this song is the least bit condescending. Simon or whoever is having the dream is simply trying to warn the 10,000 people that silence is dangerous and offers to teach them his words and reach out his arms to help them. However, they ignore him and continue to worship the "neon light."
can you say condescending? | Reviewer: george | 4/4/2008
There once was a time that I liked this song. A long, long, time ago. But eventually, lyrics such as the following got to me...
"Fools" said I, "You do not know
Silence like a cancer grows.
Hear my words that I might teach you.
The sheer level of arrogance and seelf importance in those words is beyond comprehension. The melody is OK but the lyrics...[roll eyes]
Fantastic | Reviewer: CostiganLove | 12/24/2007
This song is beautiful and melancholy in it's lyrics. No matter where you hear it, you have to listen and reflect on the lyrics. It makes me feel very isolated and engrossed in the song. A masterpiece!
Sound of Silence-A song of deep beauty | Reviewer: Liz | 8/14/2007
This song is beautiful and brings tears to the eye. It has so much meaning, I think it is referring to the need to protest, if we are all silent when there are problems those problems will never be fixed. Silence like a cancer grows, people are sometimes too afraid to speak their minds.

A True Simon Classic | Reviewer: Sunfish | 3/26/2007
Indeed one of Simon's greatest. Ultimately, he was saying that his songs were falling on deaf ears in the music industry at the time, as well as local audiences. Originally an acoustic guitar song with vocal harmonies, bass and drum parts were added...and BOOM...we have one of the greatest songs ever.
dark yet light | Reviewer: Monica Snicket | 2/26/2006
this song is dark in its lyrics, and yet light in the melody in true Simon and Garfunkel fashion. a wonderful peice of music to be remembered forever by true classic rockers everywhere.
