The version most people know (Simon & Garfunkle) is combined with another tune called "Canticle" so that the two songs meld. Canticle is a general protestation about the pointlessness of war. Scarborough Faire is a riddle song...of a couple..apart...but possibly still in love. One of them sets a series of impossible tasks to prove the love of the other. But, if the tasks are impossible, can love be proven? The answer is in trying ...as shown in these older verses not included in the S & G version. If she tells me she can't, then I'll reply.
