Feeling connected with people around you doesn't rely on their physical presence. It relies solely on actually being connected. One is superficial, the other is dynamic. Minimizing that by comparing where a person is born is niave. How about Americans born into the home of a pedophile and rapist? How about Americans who loose a loved one to violence, or their entire family in a car accident.
