The song is loosely based about Max's grandparents aswell, who were both sent to concentration camps ... Although i do not know whether one was Treblinka.

Meaning | Reviewer: Marcus | 11/1/07

Colin, you forgot to mention Treblinka, the extermination camp in Poland, which is a dead giveaway about what this song is really about.

Clearly Not About 1984. | Reviewer: James | 10/31/07

Everyone who's suggested this message is about the Holocaust is correct. Boot stomped meadows, the ghetto, work camps. This song has wonderfully intellectual lyrics and I can't wait to hear more from Max. I've heard he's Jewish, which would make sense to all his references in his other songs. Say Anything is an amazing band. Love Love Love.

Meaning | Reviewer: Colin | 10/26/07

The song is actually an allegory for the Holocaust. The two people that are being sung about were a couple before they were taken away. The "ghetto" referred to in the song is the first clue to its meaning. The second is more direct: "...city vast and shitty falls to the Axis." They then speak of the Nazi soldiers "... search[ing] the buildings, collect[ing] gold fillings, wallets, and rings" The final reference to the Holocaust occurs when they sing of being sent to "those separate work camps." This indeed was the case in Nazi Germany. The concentration camps were divided among men and women. The reoccurring them of the song is being "alive with the glory of love." This "love" is personified to be larger than an emotion. It is a "living" idea, one that cannot be taken away even by separation or war. When it is say "I won't let them take you" in the song it means he will not allow them (the Nazi's) to take his love of her away; regardless of the pain caused to him, hence the line "Should they kill me, your love will fill me as warm as the bullets." This song is, indeed, extremely powerful. It's stark and stunning description of love is both inspiring and encouraging.

Our song | Reviewer: Poket | 10/20/07

This song is what can only be expressed as incredable to me. It's also mine and my lover's song, he doesnt quite know what the song means and refuses to say that im right about the subject to which it's about. These lyrics will play a roll in our soon argument that will be a great defeat to him....poor poor @$$hol3

1984 | Reviewer: Maddie | 10/23/07

this is a great song...and i am convinced that it is written about the book 1984 by george orwell, which just happens to be my favorite book. there are several references to the book. Say anything is, without a doubt one of my absolute favorite bands, they're awesome!

Alive With The Glory Of Love | Reviewer: Melina | 10/12/07

This song, along with other songs by Say Anything has more meaning then people think when they first hear a song by this band.
The song writer has a great way of seeing things in life and writing the lyrics so other people can get a great message out of it too.
I hope they keep up with their amazing songs.
It really does change peoples lives when they hear a song that they can really connect to.

Difference | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/9/07

I don't think this song is actually about the war itself.. The war and camps were just used as a vessel to carry the message of love. I think the message is that through all the stuff going on, war and killings, these two people still love each other so much and will risk everything just to be together.

i think the lyrics of this song are so powerful. they personify the strongest love, the love that survives. its beautiful.
