I certainly do not suggest that the theory I offer here is the correct one. I'm not sure that there is a correct one. But for me, Wintersong is the ballad of a lonely Christmas that follows the passing of a cherished friend and lover. The sadness of the loss is assuaged only by her memories of happier holidays, and her wish of a merry Christmas for the departed. Wow. What a tremendous talent, and what a brilliant, tragic song.
