Fumbling Towards Ecstasy is NOT Faltering From Brilliance | Reviewer: David Johnston | 2/12/09
From the haunting beginnings of "Possession" to the mournful closing strains of "Fumbling" (after which we are treated to a piano only version of "Possession"), Sarah McLachlan shines SO brightly on this collection of songs that sun glasses are required eye wear even at the stroke of midnight. Ms. McLachlan tackles subjects others would have left alone and makes us all think long and hard about our own feelings. "Good Enough" dealing with the beginnings of a relationship; "Hold On" dealing with death; and "Mary" again dealing with relationships in a way that cause us all to rise and fall with the flow of emotions she is singing about.
I must admit to often being in a group and asking the question, 'Am I the only guy who likes Sarah McLachlan?' The answers I get to that question are often 'yeah, probably' or blank stares to indicate the same. This CD is a masterpiece of emotional ebb and flow controlled by Sarah's amazing voice, superb lyrics, and intriguing subject matter. "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy" gets 5 stars out of 5 on my rating system and an extra 'thank you' to Sarah McLachlan for being who she is and blessing us with this phenomenal CD.
