Faure did not write the lyrics, neither did Lloyd Webber or Tim Rice. There are hundreds of settings of the Pie Jesu text by many different composers. Gabriel Faure wrote the music and lyrics, but his lyrics originally only consisted of Pie Jesu. (Oh Sweet Jesus) Though normally pius doesn't mean that at all. The PIE JESU from Andrew Lloyd Weber's REQUIEM is a moving coda to the DIES IRAE, a prayer sung in Latin at Roman Catholic Funeral Masses. NOt as frequently heard today, but always kept in memory.
