First of all, this song totally rocks. So does Rise Against. I love them because of their powerful lyrics. They are still able to rock my socks off, and still sing about an important cause. To me, the song is about the mistreated refugees. It's obviously about the hardships they face on a daily basis. A serious topic, but an awesome song.

    Good meaning. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/15/2007

I think that this song has alot of good meaning.
Sure, to the naked eye it seems like a bit of a sad song, a bit of a downer really. But I like it, I understand it's about getting back up in the world, even when everything ((or everyone)) is trying to push you back down.

    do something | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/11/2007

wow i saw the video and caught the last portion and it really caught my eye. i love songs like this where people are actually voicing to other people that there are people that are fending for themselves and aren't given everything. do something about it.

    so maybe you will understand

    my interpretation | Reviewer: christy | 9/16/2007

I kind of thought that the lyrics were about war. The lines "We are the angry and the desperate. The hungry and the cold. We are the ones who kept quiet, and always did what we were told. But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm in the safety of your home." reminds me of soilders in battle. but I do agree with Britt and The Pope. It could be about people taking advantage of others or refugess fending for themselves.

Rise Against always have meaning in thier songs....they write them theirselves and noramly voice a opinion or truth in the songs. Its simply thier take on things.....they just know how to make them sound awesome!

theres always meaning | Reviewer: Anonymous | 9/5/2007

to the person who said "no one cares wat the song is about, its just plain awsome..." i agree the song song is awesome. But the song is art. And i'm sure the artist had intent on why he wrote it. And some people like to listen to the lyrics and find out what they pick up from what the artist is saying. So when you say no one cares, you should make sure that everyone is okay with you speaking for them.

    its obvious | Reviewer: britt | 9/1/2007

read the title!! its about refugees being taken away from thier lives and thrown out to fend for themselves. the artist may have related this to his own life but thats where it started. im assuming, of course.

the song is about people who take advantage of others, it's that simple, and the first verse, it talks about how the people went in search of something, but found themselves losing what little they had, because that's how people are taken advantage of in modern society, wether the Eastern European woman looking for a job in rich Western Europe and being taken by a criminal gang as.. what criminal gangs sell to men.. or someone being sold over to drugs by the friend offering them marajuana, its all about how people get dragged out of their depth and drowned by people who want what little they have.
I don't see how it could be seen as specifically racist, although the music video does show how us westerners take advantage of cheap labour in Asia. It shows how all of us rich people are fat cats and dont give a shit about those poorer than ourselves.
Email me if you seriously disagree, if it would make you feel better.
