I agree with The Nocturnal.
I'm reading the book called, The Kite Runner, and where the protaganist goes back to afghanistan to save a child from the Taliban, he sees his old mansion house all destroyed and the windows broken. All of his memories flash by. The song strongly relates to it. And the book is great too XD.

Taken advantage | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/1/07
This song is such a great song.It really makes you stop and think about those who have lost their homes or have to leave them behind due to war.People who have left there beloved items, animals, and homes. Its really shows how people take advantage of every little thing they own.
Eh, review? | Reviewer: Guru | 10/30/07
It's great to see that this song has achieved guitarist fame by being added to Guitar Hero 3. Many people who never heard to the band are now aware of their purpose and awesome songs, including this one.
On the negative note, however, players are more concerned with the flying colors and hitting notes rather than the song's meaning. Hmph. Every member of Rise Against is a vegetarian, which I found pretty admirable.
T.T i agree it | Reviewer: kim | 10/27/07
I view this movie. My nation is south korea that invest China and East Europe and South-East Asia and Africa so and so... Well... I think OECD nations are demons (overaction?) just consider them . Cheap product make a slave of someone. The song has an aftereffect

Many Ways to See it | Reviewer: The Nocturnal | 10/16/07
I agree with the idea everyone has of being taken advantage of... but you have to look at it from the perspective of the band not being from the world but America. So citizens of the world and the country their views are two sided. The end of the vido with the broken products spelling Free Trade, I think hints at the fact that we are overseas taking advantage of the poor and at the same time creating our own poor by outsourcing their jobs "the things that we once knew"
Also touching on this I think is the way that all the rich countries "or at least better opportuniy countries used to view themselves. "We had a place that we could call home, And a life no one could touch." I think goes towards that too. If you are a working class citizen Free Trade doesn't just mean big countries taking advantage of little ones, it also means big comapnies taking your jobs to a place that is cheap for them.
The poor in other countries get mistreated and used, and the working class in America lose the ability to work and become the poor in America, or any other country being used by Global Companies this way.
Last point, not just on lyrics, but also on the video the band made for the song, which they had some input in making. They are in a big "Wal-Mart" type store surrounded by all this cheap labor made product, but there's no one working or shopping there. Because there's no one left and no money to buy it with. Great song, multiple meanings, many points of view. AWESOME!!!!
no title. | Reviewer: Sheena101 | 10/15/07
First of all, this song totally rocks. So does Rise Against. I love them because of their powerful lyrics. They are still able to rock my socks off, and still sing about an important cause. To me, the song is about the mistreated refugees. It's obviously about the hardships they face on a daily basis. A serious topic, but an awesome song.
Good meaning. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/15/07
I think that this song has alot of good meaning.
Sure, to the naked eye it seems like a bit of a sad song, a bit of a downer really. But I like it, I understand it's about getting back up in the world, even when everything ((or everyone)) is trying to push you back down.
do something | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/11/07
wow i saw the video and caught the last portion and it really caught my eye. i love songs like this where people are actually voicing to other people that there are people that are fending for themselves and aren't given everything. do something about it.

my interpretation | Reviewer: christy | 9/16/07
I kind of thought that the lyrics were about war. The lines "We are the angry and the desperate. The hungry and the cold. We are the ones who kept quiet, and always did what we were told. But we’ve been sweating while you slept so calm in the safety of your home." reminds me of soilders in battle. but I do agree with Britt and The Pope. It could be about people taking advantage of others or refugess fending for themselves.
