He views the world as a plague, and the evil things that happen when evil people do evil things. The man wants a world with no evil and no war. The last verse where he says " Is there a God tonight..".. In that entire verse he is talking about God and Heaven. "A place where we can hide from the Night.".. "Place" Meaning Heaven.... and the "Night" meaning Hell. "Where you are all I see"... reference to God himself? Thats what I take it as... almost like he is having a conversation with God, and wanting to be dead and in Heaven, rather than finish his life on earth. I think this song is more simply about him and his band fearing the way the world is today and wishing to live a more simple, safe, and happy life.
