I Dont Agree with Robert... i think that people have the right to say what they think and if you think that people cant say want they want then just dont pay attention to then....cuz this is a cool song so people should get to say their opinion and they what they think the song is about....
cool | Reviewer: matt | 2/12/08
yeah, this is a righteous song, but please take heed of the lyrics everyone to get them done. Don't collide and drag on the fight over who's right because in the end... the distance still remains.
I love this song | Reviewer: DJ Glenn | 1/22/08
I love this song, some say theres no real meaning. But its about the people standing around waiting to get what they want. This song is also about how nobody does anything to help another they can only blame otheres and never take responcabily for there actions.

I adore this song, it's my all time favorite, and I did spend a lot of time thinking about it, but i think that no matter what you come up with, it means to you what you want it to mean Maybe thats one of the things that makes this song AMAZING.

maybe | Reviewer: jake | 10/29/07
maybe you all missed the point ever though it might be the struggle that the farmers have to undertake with the drought and the fact that there is bugger all rain in some places, maybe just maybe its that simple.... any way this song rocks, i have just seen these dudes live recently and they are sick
my thoughts | Reviewer: Dylan | 10/20/07
I think, like most tracks on Siren Songs of Counter Culture, this song is about non-conformity. Rise Against is using draught and fire as a metaphors for a lack of personal freedom in American culture. Also, I think they talk about how nobody seams to care and just along with the social norms.
I honestly feel that through out the entire disk Rise Against are expressing there desire to live their own lives. And not fallowing the traditional mold for how to do things. I.E. go to college, get a job, get married, have kids, drive a mini van, ect ect.
Lines like “Will you save us like you saved them?” are a jab at the system. I interpret it as saying all these people who are fallowing the crowd aren’t any happier than “us” (members of the “counter cutler”)
“You’ve bled me dry but I’m still breathing
I swear I’m sucking dry the sky
And you wont ever find us kneeling
Or swallowing your lies”
Versus like this are saying that they will never change. Even with all the bad stuff that has been done to them, they are still living they’re lives on they’re terms
Lines like “If I held my ground would you ask me to change?” are about wanting to be accepted as they are.
my meaning for this song | Reviewer: Maryann Bush | 10/5/07
It does make me think government and the war. Maybe the thoughts of the soliders and their worlds colliding with tht of the gov. or even the people. I think it is saying I try and try to accomplish things but it isn't good enough, fast enough, or even the right way. The drought bleeding on and dancing for rain means that we are waiting for the impossible and it isn't going to change.

ALL Rise Against songs I find hard to decifer EXACTLY what they're saying. In this song, however, I do beleive they're talking about how everyone thinks poverty and war is being taken care of because of what we here from our government and movies, but that nothing is being taken care of...I think both "Paul" and "Joakim" were right.
Cool song. | Reviewer: Joakim | 9/7/07
The anonymous person saying it was about Religion... I don't think that's correct, as I get it I get that they sing about USA's government, saying they won't obide to them and do as they tell them to, or to belive in what they say or anything like that.

This song is totally awesome! Just like every other song by Rise Against. I just can't help but love this song!!!! XD
What I Think | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/12/07
Hey i really love "Dancing for Rain" but never really knew what it was about. I came up with a theory:
The specified drought is metaphorical, it stands for a life or death situation that people are faced with and although this is a natural occurance people will blame God for it, "reach for the stars" as in talking to God and "point the finger never accept the blame" as in blaming God for what is happening even though often it is brought upon ourselves.
The term "Dancing for rain" means the people will go to any extreme to appease God if they need reasurance. Dancing is used because dancing for someones amusement is humiliating and so by dancing they will please God who will in turn provide rain to end the drought.
"The waters come but the fire still rages on here". Its saying that the problem is over, the water they prayed for has come, but nobody is thankful to God. "these worlds colide but the distance remains", God has assisted but nobody cares about it, so God being one world and us the other have come together as he helped us but we are no closer to him because although we blame him when things go wrong, we are not thankful when he puts them right.
good song | Reviewer: ben | 7/3/07

amazing | Reviewer: paul | 7/2/07
you're all right when you say this song is amazing but your completely missing the point. this song is about how we offer almost no help to those who need it most, such as thrid worlds countries.
