Depression | Reviewer: Scott B | 5/20/12

I believe that this song is not about any major political events or any of that sort of stuff, but instead about Depression, and how the Depressed people "Dance For Rain". The rain could be taken in the terms of attention, the pursuit of happiness, etc. It just makes more sense for me.

you see, right? so many different views, ofcourse there is somthing the band thought while doing the song but music in general is made for you to find your own meaning in it, there is no right or wrong opinions so instead of fighting to so wich is the most "acurate" or tring to guess what the band thought just post your idea, without anger and more important without wanting to make people think like you =)
have a nice day, dont eat meat and hel the enviroment ;)

Enviromental issue? | Reviewer: Madson | 9/30/09

quoting Paul "how we offer almost no help to those who need it most, such as third world countries". Wow man i live in a "third world country"(Brazil)... the way you said it, it just sounded like we live in a deep shit situation, we are bums and instead of giving us a job "first world countries" just give us a buck for buy the booze so it seems like they are doing their part.

But anyway, about the song, as some people said it's impossible to know what the author really thought while he was writting the lyric, maybe nothing... who knows. But you still can assume what it means.

For me, at first it had enviromental meaning:

"We're losing daylight but I cant work any faster.
Under the veil of dusk we go on" - it sounds like we are in a non stop workday that is increasing and we even have to work during night. Work that pollute the world.

"What if it all disappears in the shadows that reach from the stars?"
- shadow that reach from the stars could be night or even death... working a lot while we could die at any time

"If I held my ground would you ask me to change?" - if i don't want to die (held my ground), would i need to change the way i live?

"This drought bleeds on now we're dancing for rain" - enviromental disasters (the drought) that we generate (because of excessive work - pollution) are killing people (bleeds on) and now we want an imediate solution (dance for rain so we can end the drought)

"We point the finger, never accept the blame" - we are polluting as a whole but we always try to find someone to place the responsability

But yes... after reading the comments it sounds more like a social/political thing of how we just care about ourselves and don't help the others.

Some people may say "just enjoy the music and stop infering things" haha i know, i enjoy it but i think it's kinda impossible to not rave about it after reading the lyrics.

i think this song is about a lack of honesty among politicians and how we the people under their "sky" (rule) just "dance" (ask) that they give us "rain" (honesty), and they continue to feed us sweetened lies.

"And you wont ever find us kneeling, Or swallowing your lies" we won't accept their lies.

there's hints to other meanings in this song but i think the main point is just being tired of being lied to by the people who are supposed to be working for our good.

Firstly, freedom of speech. Embrace it.
Second, I'm sorry, but no one says "mosh" anymore unless you're referring to an actual mosh pit.
Third, this song does kick ass and there are a thousand literal and metaphorical meanings you could come up with. That's what's so great about Rise Against.

Great Song | Reviewer: bryan | 4/16/09

The song is a lot like what dkdkdk says its about but I think it's more about how people go on "community service" trips to build houses and wells and then talk about it like they made a huge difference in the country they went to. When he says "We sleep so sound in rooms just up the stairs "Will you save us like you saved them," it seems like he's saying that we only help a few people then just leave feeling better about ourselves.

wicked song | Reviewer: peter | 3/23/09

i dont understand why ppl say that we shouldn't think of songs more in depth. pretty much every song out there has a meaning to it, but in rise against case every single one of their songs exploits all the flaws that exist in our world. they are an amazing band im just shitted i didnt' get to see them live in melb:(!

project. | Reviewer: dkdkdk | 2/25/09

im doing a project for a class at school and i heard this song and i thought about it and i think its about how the people in 3rd world countries dont have anyclean water and how most people dont even know anything is going on. when they say, "The waters come but the fire still rages on here,The men all shrugged their shoulders and left." i think its saying that we give charity to the people but that only supplies them untill it runs out and they have no other source of water. instead of giving charity to people we have to actually step in and give them something that will sustain them more than a day, like help finance the construction of a well. please if u have anyother imput tell me. i need alot of ideas

about the meaning of song lyrics: song writers combine something with what they write for sure. but when you listen to music you wont get the same thoughts for sure! and thats quite good as long you can enjoy it or even better if it helps yourself ;)

BLAH | Reviewer: :) | 8/11/08

simplly music nothing more... | Reviewer: Kukavshtica | 7/31/08

This song provides feeling...nothing more or less...yeah its lyrics has some quotes that make me think about my personal stuff but the music is what in combination with these certain quotes...that's what make the song great...not the meaning itself, not the music all alone but the idea....

Why? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 7/9/08

Why must you suddenly come to the thought that this song HAS to mean something? could it simply be a song? Yes it has got hints to something but unless you are the writer you do not know the meaning of this song... I myself am a song writer and play in a band, but we barely ever if never put this extent of meaning into our work, and we are not only some garage band we are quite reknown... So next time you listen to something think of it as music not a Political Debate.

good | Reviewer: rob | 7/4/08

Rise Against's views as a band are of goverment corruption twords natural decimation. The goverment and industrys are hand in hand killing ourselves, our planet "We get one chance, one planet, lets do it right this time" -- Tim Mcllrath

Rise against | Reviewer: Luke | 5/30/08

As for Rise Against, They sing the truth about world conflicts, and nothing but the truth. Also makes you see how selfish and heartless us as a human race can be, and its clear we all need to make a change. War isnt the answer. Rise Against: a perfect 10/10 for pointing out these flaws we have, and making an impact on how i for one see the world now.
