------ performed by Red Hot Chili Peppers

great song | Reviewer: someDudewithGuitarandAcigarette | 11/24/09

it's interesting to see the different interpretations to this song, but I do believe Keidis was clearly relating to drug addiction and in a very personal yet abstract manner showing showing the solitude one has to endure when they find themselves in such a state...to me this song shows the contemplation, the withdrawl, the yearning, the high, and the acceptance of it all... maybe you have to have been an addict to understand...

lonely | Reviewer: Jehss | 9/21/09

Ff you read Scar Tissue the autobiography by Anthony Keidis you will see that he wrote this song when he realised he wasn't so close to his bandmates anymore. He was struggling to stay sober and was feeling really lonely

Not about LA Riot | Reviewer: John G | 5/17/09

to the previous poster, well it's definitely not about the LA Riot. First of all they've said a lot that it's about heroin abuse, and also Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik was released on September 24, 1991 and the Riots took place in April 92

LA Riots 1992 | Reviewer: Janika | 4/23/09

This song was actually inspired by the LA Riots of 1992. It was about the pain he felt seeing the city destroyed by the violence. Singing from the perspective of a rioter he betrayed his love for the city by being involved in the killings (not that he actually did). Under the Bridge (musical part of song which is neither chorus nor verse) is where the real meaning of the song is expressed. Water under the bridge is an old saying equivalent to "let go of the past."
Apparently this is a part of the past that you young 'uns ;) are unfamiliar with. Look it up on Wikipedia.

favorite song | Reviewer: brndn1992 | 3/9/09

I'm not an addict of any sort but when I hear this and sing it it brings back painful memories. Growing up shy, insecure, and not outgoing at all makes you lonely as fuck and this song just explains me perfectly. The only friend at times to me is music and a pen and a pad. And when I sing the last part of this song I think of trying to defeat those horrible feelings and live life how I want.Especially after I attempted suicide and just lived in a dense bucket of crap for a period in my life.

I love this song, I could sing to it for hours. its absolutely amazing, I dont think I could last an hour without listening to it. the lyrics are great, like all of their lyrics are. anthony keidis has an amazing voice, and the guitar Rhthym in it is fantastic.

Takes awhile | Reviewer: Ellie | 4/28/08

At first this song annoyed the hell out of me, but my bf kept telling me that it took awhile to get used to Anthony Keatis' voice so I succumbed, now I love this song and plan on performing it....
:]
Listen to it and please be patient!

Understand | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/29/08

If you have ever struggled with drug addiction, then you know exactly what this song is talking about. When I was in active addiction (heroine) and I heard this song...the "she" that he mentions, meant the dope to me. "She's" my only friend...this may not be what he meant, but from one addict to another, I totally understand and relate. Just for today! :)
