The haunting melody is uncharacteristic of the band's usual menu of punk and psychedelic rock. However, the band carries on like it's just one of their usual material. This is one song where simplicity in tempo, rhythm and melody is able to evoke emotions from the listener. He died of a heroin overdose in 1988. Since then a few other songs have been written in his memory. What's great about this song is not only the smooth, trance-like rhythm, but also that the lyrics can take on so many meanings to so many people. For me, I played this song on repeat the entire day before I entered rehab for a long, terrible addiction. The first thing i did when i got out of rehab was rush home so I could play this song. Now that my life has changed, I dedicate this song to my now husband. Its just one of those magical songs that is part of the soundtrack of life.
