Explantion for lyrics | Reviewer: Anonymous | 3/21/12
A man comes home to find out from his supposed best friend that his wife has been sleeping around with others, and that Andy his best friend has aslo slept with his wife. he leaves the bar angry and walks home. Then he finds his gun and goes to Andy's home. On his way he sees small (girl) footprints. When he arrives at Andy's home he finds him already dead and fires his gun to get the attention of the police. They find him guilty and hang him before his sister can confess that it was she who killed Andy and her brothers wife.
Great song, | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/24/11
This song used to scare the hell out of me when I was a kid. I first heard it on the Carol Burnett Show when Vicki Lawrence sang it. It was a late Saturday night and I went to bed thinking of these creepy lyrics. I scared easily back then. Someone else recorded it too, right after Vicki's recording. But Vicki's went to #1.
Story line | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/27/11
First of all, I think that the way the song is written purposefully leaves it open to interpretation. It's supposed to leave you guessing. I don't think we are ever supposed to know all the details. But, my take is this: Little sister was in a relationship with Andy (former best friend of Brother)and she found out he was cheating on her with her sister-in law. Little Sister takes matters into her own hands, leading to the murder of Andy. As to the corruption of the justice system, I think that is just a common view of southern police officers. They don't really check the facts, they just want to close the case.

I love this song! Almost everybody else on this board has talked about Vicki Lawrence, and to tell the truth I've never even heard of her. when I waws little my mom told me that it wasn't a good song and that I shouldn't listen to it(in somewhat variated terms)I love my mommy!...

Reba is a talented, beautiful person that deserves so much, just what she gave to us. Her songs tell awsome stories that teach us, well at least me. She is so fun and funny, and I realy love her show called"Reba" that is on LifeTime. So like I said, I LOVE REBA,she is one of my top country singers!
The Night The Lights Went Out In Georgia | Reviewer: Kim | 2/9/08
Well I personally think that Reba Mcentire is a much better singer of the song then Vicky lawarence. If you don't understand the words then you are just too young to get it. It is about a cheating wife and a sister who kills the cheating wife for the brother. Then the brother gets hung the sheriff knew that Andy did not kill Seth.
The sister killed the cheating wife along with Seth and before she could confess to the brother Andy they killed him.
The reason the said that the lights went out was that it was for a lying cheating community.
still dont get it | Reviewer: john | 1/5/08
I understand everything about the song except for one thing. Why did the lights go out in geogia? they hung him not electricuted him,!
What the song is saying | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/9/07
The girl is singing about her brother and the fact that he was tried and executed for killing his wife and the man she cheated with, Andy Wolloe. She admits in the last verse of the song that it was her that shot both of them and that they killed her brother before she could tell them. The song also implies that the judge knew damn well that her brother hadn't committed the crime.
not sure i understand what happened... | Reviewer: makayla | 11/12/07
i've read the lyrics a few times...and love listening to this song. I'm still not sure i fully understand. Was his brother cheating with the guys wife?? and was the wife the one that shot his brother? could someone please explain. thanks!
Don't kill me, but Vicki's better | Reviewer: Anonymous | 5/1/06
I heard the song years and years and.......well you get the picture. I love the song, and since Vicki Lawrence sung it first, you kinda get the gist of what the song is about, but I was listening to it today on the way home and have never understood all the words; thus, never understood what happened exactly in the song. Now I printed the lyrics and understand the song. After all these years!!! haha Love Reba; she's got talent she 'ain't' even used yet, but Vicki Lawrence is better, in my humble opinion, on this particular song.
I love Reba! | Reviewer: Candy Dorscher | 1/13/06
Reba McEntire is so talented, and this song is fun to listen to and sing. Reba's music just makes me want to sing it on a rooftop. But I don't think Reba would appreciate me ruining her song!!!

Great Song | Reviewer: Anonymous | 10/17/05
This is a great song. Not many songs now adays tell a story but this one pulls it off quite nicely. After reading the lyrics I finally caught the whole story. When listening to the song its a little hard to catch it. But it has a great story to it and the music is even better. I give this song a A++
