I heard Madeleine Perouyx's smooth and stylish performance at the Michigan Theater in Ann Arbor and , on the previous night on the same stage, I heard the master and author himself, Randy Newman, sing it. Mr. Newman has a body of work that will be performed decades after he has left this earth. But I think "I Think It's Going To Rain Today" will shine above all the rest of his works. When Mr. Newman starting to sing the song with its memorable line: "Human kindness overflowing", I thought he was singing a standard and I was trying to recall from which great stage musical the song belonged.
