The real meaning. | Reviewer: kilcourtney | 5/12/10

He was stubborn and took things for granted. He is losing her and realizes now he can't possibly live without her. He recognizes how great she is and how wrong he was and is willing to do anything to make it up to her. He wants to change for her and just wants her to give him the chance to prove it. Hence...Just don't leave. If she leaves she won't see what he now realizes he needs to be for her. He just wants to prove it to her no matter what it takes.

I really interpretated this song | Reviewer: shane9 | 4/24/10

i love this song, im in love with someone, for the first time, but im afraid of telling her that, with kitten smile, i just describe her to my friends, saying that, thats what i like the most, and i heard the song and found that on the lyrics, i love radiohead, because even if sometimes they dont want to tell you something you just cant stop fealing so identified with the songs...i love it, everything RADIOHEAD RULES!!!

to me it's about true love that simply can not be given... no matter if it is words of a lover or a parent, you see that they are willing to do anything for their love("i'll drown my beliefs to have your babies"-how powerful lyrics btw) but obviously there are obstacles, so they tell their love to wait.. and that's exactly what a true love should do, if it is true..

i don't like thinking on it too much | Reviewer: cap_unpnts. | 11/25/09

i prefer the lyrics vague. just like a prefer a writer who doesn't describe much of the characters, physically, I mean. it lets me fill in the details for myself. just the boiled down essence is what is here, and I prefer it that way. the jarring thing for me is when listening to the "i might be wrong" live version, the voice telling me 'good night' at the end sounds so chipper, it jars the mood a bit, lol.

BABIESSSS! | Reviewer: amy lea | 11/15/09

hi ive been singing this for a long time now wrong!and although i love your lyrics actually more than the offical ones just thought id let ppl know its "to have you bein peace" not have your babies!! but i like your babies version better!! <3

i love this song | Reviewer: john | 9/8/09

i think this is one of thoms best songs and i love playin it. like many rh songs it lets the listener decide the meaning of the song. undecided lyrics such as "have you in peace or "have your babies" i heard the second 1 but it doesnt matter what you think thats the best part. XD radiohead changed my life XD

Here's my interpretation | Reviewer: Sanya | 5/8/09

I just heard the song and fell in love with it so I had to look at the lyrics. I might be completely off here but its possible he's talking about his love for a child, perhaps his daughter????
Your tiny hands
Your crazy kitten smile
On lollipops and crisps..................

love | Reviewer: Dan | 5/4/09

My interpretation, on one level, is that the song is about the process of us sensing the loss of love to the mundane, rational and formal life and us striving to preserve childlike, innocent love, even when we are pulled in directions that move us away the natural and uncontrollable love we give as children. This comes full circle when we bring love (children) into the world ourselves and see this love again but from outside.

I agree that there's no need to pull songs that you love apart, like I have done here. A song is an interval of time that we relate to thoughts and emotions. Radiohead are brilliant at conveying these beautiful intervals of time. Nothing more, nothing less. But this song makes me want to strive to be more childlike at times, to try to love unconditionally, and to learn to forget.

I think Thom didn't annuciate the words well on purpose... I think that he did it just to leave YOU guessing and determine it on your own so you can make the song what you want it to be...

Just a suggestion...

hey now.. | Reviewer: just some guy | 10/1/08

well yeah, i mean, the "i woke up this morning sucking on a lemon guy" is half right. the lyrics are probably personal and we'll never know the specifics of what thom yorke actually meant, line for line, in the song. but the theme is also universal. based upon the lyrics, i would guess it's about going through a break-up. telling your lover you will change if they just "don't leave" or whatever, and then deciding that true love is worth the wait and probably hoping in time the lover will return. however, it's tough for me to make a fair analysis as i am going through something much similar to what i just described- so of course that's how i'll translate it. but it's not fair to condemn people for analyzing it line for line like that, some people just get really excited about art they can relate to. regardless of whether or not they nailed the synopsis, i don't think radiohead would do what they do if they didn't want their audience to feel like they can relate and be enthused. how else can one be truly appreciated? all in all let's all just agree that it's a beautiful song, yah?

This song is NOT ABOUT the story he read in the newspaper, but inspired by. It's probably about unrequited love, or whatever he had in mind. I view it about unrequited love. It's not about waiting for love, but wanting love but only able to wait. I believe. The beauty is, the song is so beautiful and such that anyone can relate to it. The people that 'translated it line for line' ...well lets just say I find it surprising that such simple minded people (simple minded enough to think you can know what he means) would even like a band as deep and beautiful as Radiohead. This is, in my opinion, the greatest song of all time."

Yeah guys, music is only for pretentious wankers, don't you even think about letting it mean something to you....

When asked about the meaning of the line "I'll dress like your niece," Thom had this to say: "the difference between young and old when people start to dress sensible and act their age. this person is offering not to do that to keep the other. alles klarr?"

According to Thom, the line "On lollipops and crisps" is from an article he read: "I read an article about a child who was between 5-8 yrs old who was left on his/her own for a week in a house when his parents left on hoilday and he lived on lollipops on crisps. True"

True love waits | Reviewer: Myv | 5/26/08

It's actually "Ill drown my believes to have your babies" and then i'm pretty sure it says "And true loves lives in lollipops and cribs" implying a child. Because true love is the product, And in my opinion it is about somebody waiting for someone else's love (possibly religious).

i'm listening to this song right now... | Reviewer: Kristin | 3/11/08

...and it just feels like it's about unrequited love. unrequited love is trapped in the attic and it will fuel itself on whatever it can get.

I say it just feels like u.l. because that is one thing I know in my bones. It can last 10 years and it is fueled on a look for months, a meaningful comment for a year, a night up late talking for 2, a kiss for 5 years.

maybe not what the writer intended? but to me that's how I feel when I hear it.
