Of all their albums there are the most "rock and roll" type songs, and by that i mean melodic guitar riffs. Radiohead, to me, has always inhabited a certain vein of experience. The lines from this song-- "Just lying in a bar with my drip feed on talking to my girlfriend waiting for something to happen I wish it was the sixties I wish I could be happy I wish, I wish, I wish that something would happen." -- seem to be the bends album's account of that kind of disconnection from the world. I think the reason I've been listening to this song so much lately is that the other night I was out with a girl and we are both the introverted type that can talk to one another but we don't really go about meeting a group of friends or fit in well with a clique. She said 'This is so boring, nobody is doing anything we just come out and drink!" And I just thought of those lines and laughed. I suppose that means she is my girlfriend.
