read Siddhartha, the novel by Herman Hesse, which apparently inspired the song. the lyrics about the river, the rowboat, and time will all make sense.

First i'd like to apologize for my "Frenchy English"
As to me this song is about a Man who is diving into his past... Almost like an analysis on a divan.
Regard to the RH discography, Pyramid song is one of the most "personal song".
The melody sounds very "kiddy", my 4 year old son like it very much.

Obviously I don't know Thom's intentions behind this song, my in my opinion I agree with Gioia.
There is so much peace and beauty in this somewhat disturbing song, it is almost he has been there and back again, telling us the story of his own hypothetical suicide...
I LOVE this song

I dont know what this song means, you guys get so into it, and write eloquent thesis' on one song, trying to come up with a definite fixed interpretation of the song, and than try impose your interpretation on everyone else.
This song could be about itching his eyes for all i know. Still an awsome song.
Suicide. | Reviewer: Tyler | 4/28/07
i agree with gioia
this song has the surface meaning of suicide!!
but like most radiohead songs there is many paths that this could be interpreted as.
whatever the case a song of pure genius from thom and the boys =]]

No matter how you interpret the lyrics of this song, each interpretation only seems to scratch the surface. There are so many paths in which you could take to unravel it's underlying meaning. I really don't know what Thom Yorke was thinking or dreaming of when he wrote this song, but it has a certain mood to it that makes me feel apathetic, really. The entire album reminds me of a languid state of depression, that goes beyond feeling pity, sadness or grief. Aside from the connotation of the song, I feel like it has so many elements that have several meanings inof themselves. Elements of death, dreaming, past, present, and future, percieved afterlife, heaven, hell, eternity, .. I feel like the song as an entirety could represent pergatory or a near-death experience or a dream of death.
Pyramid Song | Reviewer: DuncWatts | 2/2/07
This is one of the finest songs ever written and performed. Ethereal, spooky, sinister and awesome. It builds up into a crescendo of strings and Ondes Martenot, before subsiding again into silence. There is a mystical element to the song, which puts it way above other songs by Radiohead.
Eternal... | Reviewer: Mr Oneness | 10/14/06
This is possibly the best song ever written and has the added bonus of a wonderfully captured performance. Beyond our mind (fear and doubt) is everlasting peace... when we truly connect with all that is...
Pyramid Song is changing us\them | Reviewer: Colin j Ray | 4/13/06
This is no song, it is an adventure through time and space where all paths are just intersections it depends on a persons perception. It is a journey through a dream in which the dual nature of the cosmos is percived and directed into a singular scheme of mind. The little rowboat is a mental carrige and thom yorke with his team of telepathic goons are simotaneously living every moment of their lives all at once in a climax of angels, aquatic life, and fearlesness

This song is sbout time and space. It jumps around from past, to present and future, thus encompassing the cycle of our life, in fact of all lives that have ever been, will ever be and those we are living now. Originally titled the Egyptian song, it surrounds the space which we all inhibit, that of society.
