The Reviews about Paranoid Android (page 5/ 9)
------ performed by Radiohead

hmm.. | Reviewer: melissa | 11/28/08

as much as all of you would like to believe this song speaks profound political words or is somehow brilliantly existential, its based on douglas adams' the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy.

zaphod beeblebrox refers to marvin, the manic depressed droid, as the "paranoid android" - the title, QED.

"you will be first against the wall"

adams also goes on to write,

"the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy defines the marketing division of the sirius cybernetics corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks wholl be the first against the wall when the revolution comes,"....curiously enough, an edition of the encyclopedia galactica that had the good fortune to fallthrough a time warp from a thousand years in the future defined the marketing division of sirius cybernetics corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who were the first against the wall when the revolution came."

so simply put, its a reflection on a late 70s sci-fi novel. and probably not much more.

but hey, im fifteen so what do i know, right?

Chris, I agree, however... | Reviewer: Dimitri | 11/22/08

I agree with you Chris in the statements about wacky red-neck americans. There are plenty of them. I can't stand that ignorant nationalism either, however, you seem to have quite a bit of pride in being, from the UK, no?

There are three parties in the US. The right wing bigots who go on and on about their ridiculous "jesus christ blah blah blah" B.S., and the left wing pushing for socialism (well, it's not like the US isn't a thinly veiled socialism anyway. whatever. that's a whole different rant.). In the middle would be the independent party, who, although not as politically strong, I'd say is a larger party than both the democrats and republicans. I say that because very few people actually fall into those two extremes parties of conservative and liberal. The rest of us fall into a liberal conservative mentality, (or a conservative liberal like Obama.) We're somewhere in between.

Blaming american people for the kyoto treaty is like blaming the british for the war between Israel and Palestine (or Pakistan and India, for that matter.)

Blaming the american people for corporations like McDonalds is like blaming people for making money. The point of a company is to make money. That's it's job. And if those in the UK didn't want McDonalds, then don't buy it. The fact that you all eat McDonalds is what keeps it there. Boycott it should you like.

Great Britain through the previous few hundred years certainly did its fair share of "controlling the world" by way of trade, by way of religion and by way of war. Know your history of the "british empire" my friend - take a look at the map of what made up of the "british empire". I'd go as far as to call Great Britain a nation of "war mongers".

Talk of oppression! India (East India Company. hello.), Newfoundland, Hong Kong, the US colonies, modern day canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa (and the other half of africa which I wont' even get into), the oppression of Northern Ireland, bermuda/bahamas and Jamaica... and a number of other british colonies. Tell me again who oppressed the local people, and forced a government upon them? The British.

It blows my mind when the English have something to say about the US enforcing its culture on the rest of the world. Ha! Hypocrites!

The wars that england was involved in, either as protagonist or antagonist over the last few hundred years is incredible. Keep paying attention:

War of Independence
WW1
WW2
Anglo-Spanish war
Anglo-Dutch war
Nine years war
War of the Spanish Succession
Seven Years War
Carnatic War
Napoleonic War
War of 1812
First Opium War
Anglo Afghan War
Crimean War
Second Boer War
Anglo Irish War
and finally the Falklands War

And while we're throwing shit at the wall, let's also mention that the British certainly played their part in slavery in the US by trafficking Africans to the US... all for the sake of the British Sterling.

The british pointing the finger at the US is the pot calling the kettle black.

Clemson is an idiot | Reviewer: Chris | 11/10/08

You bloody fool. This song isn't about America, it's about feeling alienated in the world, and continueously being looked down upon by the hierachy who are against individualism and freedom of expression, like, say Hitler was.

Anyway, if you are so sad and bitter about the perception that America gives off to the rest of the world, maybe instead of trying to control the world through mass-consumerism, money and power, you should vote in a centralist Democrat, like Barrack Obama and wait for change. No-one can forgive a country that claims to be the capital of the free world, but uses status, weaponry and violence and "the buck" to try and implement it. I mean, what about the Kioto Protecol, McDonalds, My Lai, the Atomic Bomb. You seem to want to fight every ideology that isn't the same as yours, such as first against the British, or Monarchism, then German and Japanese imperialism, then Soviet and Chinese and the spread of Communism, and now terrorism. So I can see why bands like Radiohead and the Manic Street Preachers want to condemn the U.S all the time. As Chris Martin of Coldplay once said "America gives off a really bad vibe, which is a shame because half of the people in America are good people."

God, and I hate American patriotism and nationalism, REDNECK.

Oh yeah, and Radiohead are one of the best bands ever (confirmed by experts as well), so don't listen to fools who still thik Dolly Parton and Ronald Reagan are still alive. If you love Radiohead, keep loving them. Their music is pure passion, and I even love their Kid A/Amensiac era music.

It's ok for it not to make anysense. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 11/3/08

I really like this song due to its stream of counsciousness feel to it. I like how Thom can throw things together knowing that it's alright if things don't make sense. A lot of things don't anyway. As for Clemson, I don't know if he's trying to be clever by sounding paranoid. In any case I think Jesus would tell you to settle down.

sick. GOP rulez! | Reviewer: Clemson | 10/23/08

This song is just sick. That is why the GOP will win the US 2008 election and BARAK HUSSUIEN OBAMEA will go back to his terrorist cell in a hole and tax the lowlife scum he knows so well.

Songs like this one that talk about vomit and that ridicule and mock GOD the ALMIGHTY are for sinners and those destined for an afterlife in hell even if you listen to it just once for pleasure. Are all you people just sheeple for liking this ANTI-AMERICAN band that thrusts AMERICAN morals and values down into the toilet?

I will never buy another Radiohead record because this song just proves the band hates America and wants the terrorists to come over here to have their way with our women and food. The band obviously hates the way of life and our capitalistic society that is sanctioned by Jesus Christ and God.

the song | Reviewer: make | 8/29/08

Paranoid android is one of my favorite tones ever. It was just amazing. How great that this song is been written. I cant imagine the structure that leave us the effects. This song been written completely great and flow just like you flying on the air.

lyrics | Reviewer: megan | 8/9/08

thom yorke has said that many times he just puts words together that flow well, or he'll use phrases that he simply likes the sound of (he has specifically mentioned the line "come on rain down on me" in this song). this is why their lyrics can be seen as so deep and/or interpreted so many different ways .. even the other members of radiohead (and many times thom himself) don't have a set meaning for them

naked music is the best | Reviewer: Josh | 6/27/08

I think I talk for all of us when I say that Radiohead strokes our souls with their music. It is by human hands and mouths the purest wimper of what is real in our hearts and minds. I've noticed that people who like Radiohead really like to face what is real and wrong with things, be them generally acceptable, tangible aspects of life or the tiniest crannies of yearning in our minds. When I listen to them (I can't tell you which album is best because that depends on where my life is at the time) it makes mere English my second language as I approach understanding and appreciating the subtle bits of life in the closest sense I have ever experienced. They are not just good musicians with amazing chord progressions, haunting melodies, and-to say the least-unworldly sound intricacies; their music and messages soak me with the passion to live a search for deeper truths and passions.

wow | Reviewer: MJ | 6/19/08

I'm not exacly a fan of Radiohead (ask me again in a year, haha) but I still think they are among the best bands ever.
Since I first heard bands such as The manic street preachers and Radiohead, all modern music has become so.. bad. It seems like everything that is needed these days to climb the charts is to have a catchy tune. I already have these oppinions, and I'm only 14.

Radio head 'Greatest band of all time?' | Reviewer: JimmyBoroFan | 5/29/08

I saw a list of the best albums ever and radiohead had the most entries (some where even trying to enter the 'My iron Lung Ep')

Any time I want to chill and relax I put on 'O.K. Computer' sit down and by the time I hear 'An airbag saved my life' I am in a complete zone... Gotta go I need to listen to it again!

I agree with 'Anonymous' titled 'Sublime' all there albums are in a class/genre of their own, there is no way you can put it with any other genre, Thom Yorke for Prime Minster!
