everyone thinks this song is about saving the planet. i think its about how he thinks it's ridiculous that we think we have any effect on the planet whatsoever. "
Who's in a bunker?
Who's in a bunker?
Women and children first
And the children first.
And the children
I laugh until my head comes off "
why do you think he's laughing until his head bursts???
Then he says "We're not scare mongering
This is really happening
Happening
We're not scare mongering
This is really happening
Happening
Mobiles quirking
Mobiles chirping
Take the money and run
Take the money and run
Take the money"
which i think is his interpretation of people making money off peoples fear
then he says
"Ice age coming
Ice age coming
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both sides
Let me hear both
Ice age coming
Ice age coming
Throw them in the fire
Throw them in the fire
Throw them in the"
i think this is about when the ice age actually comes and they don't actually care about the woman and children. hence the "throw them in the fire"
-just the way i see it... probably wrong
idioteque | Reviewer: Pablo Diaz | 11/7/10
I think the only thing we should from this song is just live life to the fullest and not being idiots and blinds about the subliminal power is behind all this world nowadays, cause what it worse, even though we might know what really mankind is doin' to this world which is only harm and damage for the future generations, we are so insignificant and no matter how much we fight or struggle against this, we will never be able to change the brainwashed ideals of people living in this society. I'll just go to see the sunset today and appreciate the beauty of this world everyday until it does no longer exist anymore
Global Warming | Reviewer: BrownMorristown | 10/23/10
This song is about global warming. Ice age comming let here both sides refers to the arguement. Bunker refers to people having to survive by going underground or in caves which was how humanity survived the first ice age. Throw them in the fire refers to the do nothing approach of dealing with the problem. Take the money and run refers to our greed to produce, consume, and ruin the environment. Which is refered to earlier in the song when he says everything all the time which is reference to our addiction to consumption. Everything all of the time is such a great line. The word children is heavily stressed in this song which is way to think about the world we have created and how our selfish consumption for consumption sake(everything all of the time)has created this apocalyptic world for our children. There is a great performance on SNL when he changes the lyrics at the end to "this one is for the children" and repeats it emphatically shaking. It's a great preformance even if u don't agree with my take on this songs meaning you will agree with the SNL video here is the link: http://irc.lv/video?id=yYzSttWPQ494

I have to strongly agree with AJs post of this song being "disaster scenarios as metaphors for a personal sense of dread." But i believe that Yorke is almost looking at the world at an outside point of view, in that, he comprehends that in situations where there is little hope or impending disaster the best way to deal with it is through having a sense of calm and the enjoyment of actually being alive. I think that he realizes that there really is no "living" or "dying." It's your either alive or dead so act accordingly.
But in the end most will disagree with other peoples interpretations because most people will interpret a work of art in a way that it dipicts events that are happening in there own lives. There is no wrong or right interpretation and essentially Yorke's interpretation of his own work in the end isn't the correct one. This is because once an artist/writer releases a work it now becomes there's to as they please with it.

We are blind of our own distructiveness,we have created much negetive enegry on this planet with out a care for animals going stinkt, massive tree cuttings, throwing oil in the ocean, dolphins dieing, etc... nature has its way of cleansing the negetive energy, and it will come, the ice age, maybe 2012 maybe later, the world is outta balance and it doesnt take a genius to figure that out, law of attraction will take care of the ones who were thoughtfull of this planet and others. when the ice age is here save woman and children and not YOUR MONEY!!! Be prepared cuz you havent seen anything yet, Thom york says he has seen much well its hard to argue with that when he was beaten by his father till he went deaf!!! the question is how can we see the lion when we have been swallowed by it? We need to confront our own darkness first. Be prepared and be the change you wish to see in the world. www.shadowwork.com/about.html
Live and Let Die? | Reviewer: britt | 6/8/10
It seems like it's about the looming end of the world... who do you save/look after in a disaster? women and children first... example: titanic. ice age coming, self-explanatory, bunkers? bombs of our own demise, or even the wrath of a possible Apocalypse --it would be scary and the whole "point" of an apocalypse is to rid the earth of sinners, correct? take the money and run -stealing, throw them in the fire -could be the sinners, or more literally, melting the ice to keep from freezing. I've seen too much, you haven't seen enough -naive to 'what is really happening', mobiles quirking mobiles chirping -technology has taken over our lives, yet we use them in emergency situations... Here I'm alive -literally again, alive here, not elsewhere -aka heaven, space, hell, etc... this is my opinion/interpretation, and i do believe that if mankind doesn't slow down, take a step back, and look at what they're doing, it will be too late, and we will basically unknowingly destroy the world to the point it is inhabitable -I'm not crazy, I just observe what most don't see, not to mention anyone who actually thinks about this doesn't want to admit it so they just act as if its nothing and everyone else has lost their mind. maybe I'm looking too deep into this, or maybe I'm doing right now what most people do -question themselves and what they truly think.

You know nothing about radiohead. I am 14 years old and even i laugh at your comments. This song is about females, falling as a nuke weapon and which is bad for humanity. It is not that hard to see that methaphor up there. Re-analyze and you will see.
another tip: bunker, bunker, bunker!
disaster | Reviewer: AJ | 5/6/10
Yorke is using disaster scenarios as metaphors for a personal sense of dread. Notice how often the lyrics come back to the speaker talking about himself - the maniacal laughter, "I'm alive / Everything all of the time." Look for the common denominator - impending disaster. It could be a response to real world events or modern life. Or it could just be a personal feeling (or some combination of these things or others).
It doesn't really matter because the lyrics are about that ominous feeling getting to you. The cause of that feeling is less important, as Yorke uses disaster clichés to describe it - sinking ship, atom bomb, global warming, "women and children first," etc. I imagine that if Yorke was actually writing about one of these things, he wouldn't express each scenario in such a straightforward manner, nor would he jump around from one to the next. That lack of cohesion suggests this song is about the associated frenetic emotion, rather than any particular event or scenario.
best song ever? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 4/29/10
definitely one of my favorites. i've heard the same thing about the lyrics being pulled out of a hat from thom in an interview... take what you want from what thom might tell reporters and the what the truth might be..? kinda glad i'll never know... but in the chorus he repeats "here i'm alive, everything all of the time"... it's about all of these things you're discussing... that's kinda what it represents to me.. is just like being overwhelmed
Quite Brilliant | Reviewer: Jahn | 4/21/10
Personally, I think that it could be about climate change, or at least the paranoia (scare mongering) associated, which would make the Titanic metaphor quite apt. Also, the beauty with the titanic reference, is that in that case, the scare mongers were right but most people still died.
I find it amusing that some reviewers dont understand that references only add meaning and are not the meaning itself.

this song is actually reffering to a world of nuclear war.. hince the ice age... caused by a nuclear winter?? and who is in the bunker. meaning get them kids and women in the bunker before we all get nuked... this has nothing to due with climate change or the titanic.. quite amusing how you came up with your opinions but there wrong.. ITS ABOUT A NUCLEAR WAR! and no this is not a rambling of random lines to cause feelings.. it has a meaning

Your speculations are incorrect. | Reviewer: Anonymous | 2/6/10
Stop trying to make sense of the lyrics. He wanted to create unique emotions in his songs. So what he did was write a whole bunch of lines and put them all in a hat. He then drew the lyrics out of the hat, put them together, to make a song. He expressed that this would create new emotions out of the combined emotions of the lyrics.

The lyrics are incredibly vague...and you guy's all have terrific imaginations. I think "whose in a bunker" is a reference to Dick Chaney hiding in a bunker while Bush flew around in Airforce One, in the days following 9/11. Of course this song was written 2 years before that happened.
what its definately not about | Reviewer: michael | 1/28/10
i cannot beleive people think this song has any reference to the titanic, thats just rediculous. please give radiohead more song writing credit, they are intelligent people who understand how the world is working and are deeply angered and affected by it.
