having an affair maybe? | Reviewer: noella96 | 5/31/13
im pretty sure if shes kissing her husband goodnight, hes accusing her of being in denial for her feelings for him (thom)... and her ears are burning as they should be because thom is telling her shes in denial... the house of cards would represent her marriage if she can forget hers then tom will forget his marriage (house of cards) as well. shes like i wanna be friends, hes like um no i dont wanna be your friend i wanna be lover... but fine live in denial go home and throw your keys in the bowl, kiss your husband get swept under...

Its an apocalypse AND a lover's quarrel, potato pototo
He's telling his other half (& by extension the listener) to just forget it, he knows us better than we know ourselves...Denial denial (your ears should be burning). No more half hearts, no more fakery, its full connection now & that only comes through collapse....?
You can't escape, just SURRENDER

a new relationship that can't be just friends because if they don't consumate it they will always wonder. relationships tend to be illusory anwyay, so what does it matter who you are with, just drop your keys in the bowl and kiss your husband good night, but with someone else. deny the denial and go with the flow. stay in dreamland with me forget why you were with that other person and deal with the new cards of us.
I think | Reviewer: Rob | 1/5/11
it is about a two people that are in love and they are keeping it a secret. They are each stuck in fake, unhappy marriages (houses of cards) to people they no longer love and he is beckoning her to have the courage to join him, don't think it through, just do it, throw caurion to the wind. He is sick of just being her friend. He wants to be her lover. He loves her.
Global Warming | Reviewer: Gonzo | 9/17/10
Wow. From where I'm standing, you are all way off. If you ask me, the song is clearly about global warming. Sure, ostensibly the song is about a relationship (a failing marriage would be my interpretation, but I've read a lot of people say the song is about a potential infidelity) but I think ultimately the song is a thinly veiled metaphor for the theme, that is, environmental/technological (the latter of which is typical for Radiohead).
Thom is imploring us (and himself) to walk away from the "House of Cards" that is modern society. Soon it will all collapse, and it is not a topic that we should just sweep under the table. The lines about infrastructure and voltage speak more directly to the theme. Thom is singing to the couple in the song, who are in denial about the crisis, but also directly to you and me; "Your ears should be burning" while you're listening to the song, because we are all pretty much moving through our lives as if nothing were seriously wrong. Also, our ears may be "burning" because shit is heating up!
the affair that should happen | Reviewer: Anonymous | 12/31/09
a man trying to convince a woman that she needs to cheat on her husband with him; he's telling her to give him a chance and fall for him. in the end, he's upset because she's in denial about her true feelings towards him and refuses to listen to him.

This song is AMAZING.
I'm listening to it and the sound of his voice and the music is just like...vooomm and I'm sitting here and just like...WOAH lol
That was a pretty lame way to describe it, but it really makes me feel something when I listen to it. It's sorta of like the music sends this huge rush through my body that makes me so calm

Swingers party? | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/11/08
I think it describes the swingers party - the (married) couples meet and then the men put their keys in the bowl and each woman gets the man by taking the keys out of the bowl..
(Throw your keys in the bowl
Kiss your husband goodnight)
House of Cards | Reviewer: Miss Grace | 8/4/08
I'm assuming this song is about being in an affair with a married woman, but an affair that wasn't very-well-thought-out, hence the 'house of cards' that could crumble at any moment. I also think that the affair in the story was a spur of the moment, giving in to temptation thing that both parties would rather forget ('fall off the table, get swept under' being the succumbing to temptation, and 'forget about your house of cards, and I'll do mine' being forgetting about it).
But hell, what do I know :)
Amazing by all standards | Reviewer: Anonymous | 6/29/08

It's speaking on rushing into relationships, often for the sexual benefit, not thinking about consequences or compatibility. "Deny" the fact that the relationship isn't working and continue through it.
