On another level, however, it could also be about losing something - in particular something intangible like virtue, leadership or nobility - and feeling broken and pained by the loss, or by knowing that it was just allowed to slip away. The line "All the children flew when I touched their hands" could imply that the speaker once led people to goo things, but is no longer able to do that. Referencing that "you have to feel that in your bones" could simply mean that the pain of the loss is felt most (or entirely) internally. He misses the time life meant more, but on the other hand he feels lazy when he thinks about the price it pays to live like that. He dopes himself with prozac to feel less, can see that theres pieces missing, but dont have the guts to find or look for those pieces. And the thing about peter pan might mean that he feels old. Maybe it's about a person who has been broken inside, depressed and crippled in the emotions and mind. They can't climb the stairs, meaning stairs for a good life and happiness or something.
