Cool lyrics | Reviewer: Tim | 6/15/11

I'd go as far as saying playing the guitar while London burns IS a direct reference to Nero fiddling while Rome burns. No-one's missing the basic meaning here (which I suspect is also ironic) but Radiohead have never been scared of mixing their metaphors.

Think some people are still confused as to the basic meaning here. he's saying he has to make it big as a rockstar before he dies because in heaven anybody can play guitar so nobody can become a rockstar the everyone loves.

Roman Emperor Nero | Reviewer: Logan | 1/21/10

Actually, his idea about Nero could honestly be entirely correct. Have you every listened to "You and Whose Army" by Radiohead? It's in direct context to Nero and the Roman Empire but the metaphor is that of the personal conscious. Radiohead is much more intelligent then you think and the fact that everyone hears an interesting song that on the surface just sounds like pop is what makes them so amazing.

Reference to Nero? Don't think so... | Reviewer: Anonymous | 8/30/09

Roman Emperor Nero?? LOL! Gawd!! r u crazy man? I guess you're just seeing things that aren't there. I love radiohead and there are many songs that have hidden meanings but i don't think this is one of those... Anyway! They really rule! ^^,

Reference to Nero? | Reviewer: kas | 5/25/09

Great song.
I just noticed a reference to Roman Emperor Nero i think.
When Nero finally lost Rome to the great fire in the city, he was standing on a plateau playing his fiddle.
Just before the fire cought him he said "Qualis Artifex Pereo" (what an artist dies with me).

Anyway...
"And if the world does turn, and if London burns
I'll be standing on the beach with my guitar"
Kinda like Nero.

repeat and repeat | Reviewer: charly brown | 3/12/09

Yeah, I repeat and repeat this song, Is awesome, so good, i feel like returning years and years, when i think i never gonna die. Cool, all can happen, the world disappear, i dissapear. But nothing its importance, i feel very lovely, feel "LIKE JIM MORRISON"

Oldie but goodie | Reviewer: dreddnott | 7/1/08

When I first heard this song, the Jim Morrison lines totally cracked me up.

I like the chaotic sound of the intro and coda (the band has three guitarists) and the double-time changes in the chorus the best.

Good lyrics, almost as natural as a nursery rhyme, but much more sublime.

just awesome... | Reviewer: barlito | 12/9/07

what can i say about this song?"i want to be in a band when i get to heaven"...damn!the lyrics are harmonized with the whole music so loudly but the effects are just like heaven...Godlike Godlike Godlike!!!..the best Radiohead's song after street spirit..
