Great tune with tragic lyrics/classic Brian May | Reviewer: Ben | 9/16/2008

Just one of the many brilliant songs on A Night at the Opera (Bohemian Rhapsody was the worst song on this record IMHO, tho still great). Most of the instrumentation on this song, except the ukelele, was Brian May's Red Special guitar; this entire album features incredible sounds and performances by the entire band, but especially Brian. I always had the impression that the man in the song tried to follow his father's advice but failed to understand what his father had meant.

Clever and thought provoking | Reviewer: Matt | 5/30/2007

Brian May tells a simple tale of a man who had been warned as a boy to look after the people that matter and not to turn his back on them. But as the years go on, he gets married and forgets his friends (who eventually turn away), then he builds a business and ploughs all his time into it forgetting about his wife - who then leaves him, and he's left old and lonely. The lyrics are excellent, but the best thing about this song is not the words, but the brilliance of the performance. The song has an old fashioned 20's/30's jazz style to it, yet it sounds fresh and original instead of corny and pretentious. Only the Beatles ever managed to do the same.
