This is such a relevant song and I love it's message so much. It perfectly describes how the upperclasses look down on us common people with a silent admiration. They don't realise how well off they are in comparison to the less fortunate. As humans, most people don't realise how close to poverty we are. If you see someone asking for money, help them. Even if they blow it on booze, at least they're happy. Don't make a mockery or patronise us. Have heart.

Yes the complete lyrics are good to see and what an awesome song. Jarvis Cocker is right on with this one. And...to answer anon:

When you are a "common person", Anon, comments like the one's you made are offensive in some ways to some of us "common folk." For starters you talk of "common people" as if we are animals in a zoo -- our existence amuses you and fascinates you while we struggle everyday over simple things like "will I have enough money for food this week?" or "I guess I'll have to let my car note be late this time in order to pay my rent" or "crap I'm out of gas and payday is not until next week" Something tells me Anon that you have never posed these questions to yourself. Life is much harder without money, in fact its pretty stressful and nearly impossible. All you can do is worry over money and bills and yet people like you hoard more money than you will ever spend in your lifetime. And yet you think our lives are cool? And you wonder why there is animosity? And btw we don't want to be accepted into your circle of wealthy people we just want your money :P

as a middle class student trying to make a go of my music i always encounter prejudice and spite for people who have a lot of money (in comparison). and it sucks! i don't necessarily want to live like "common people" but it would be nice to be accepted by lower classes as they would want to be accepted in others. i know i never can "live like common people" without at the very least lying about my family or my background. it makes me very sad. i just wish i could write a song like this about the subject
