This song has to be one of the most poignant christmas songs. I kinda don't like it when people say it's lighthearted, cos it's just so terribly sad. The whole connotations that go along with it make it one of the most true christmas songs, compared to all the rubbish about it being a perfect time of year.
A true, and legendary song.
Irish?English? | Reviewer: Carolan Quinn | 12/21/08
What is this Irish/English thing going on in these reviews.? This is a beautiful song, great lyrics, great music, great story.
My Mum was English, my dad was Irish. This is their song. Its ow I grew up.They loved each other, he kept losing jobs for fighting and we wouldnt have dinner - but she loved him - he adored her -, he kept dreaming, she got pissed off cos she had to feed the kids !.
Dont make this an English Irish thing - the English are not jealous of the Irish - we envy your Poetic Soul...and this song is above all this crap !
i love it!!!! | Reviewer: sarahlougreen | 12/22/08
i think the song is fantastic , love hearing it when it comes on the radio or on tv. people to dont like this obviously dont have a sence of humour and need to get a life i think its fab. R.I.P. KIRSTY XX
David Byrne | Reviewer: Jay P | 12/22/08
Mr Byrne, generalising a whole group of people is why racism exists in our world today. Also just to point out an error on your part, how is this song irish???. The writer was Jem Finer, who is ENGLISH.
indeed , fuck you david byrne ! | Reviewer: sophie | 12/16/08
i couldnt agree more! what gives any one the right to say something like that because a couple of people who might just happen to be english dont like it as much as you do?
Me and my whole family are English and we love the song , this just looks like some typical irish arrogance to me!
Fuck you david byrne | Reviewer: Jake | 12/14/08
You generalise the every englishman based on a few?
I'm english through and through. I still like this song. To call every englishman a prick because one or two dislike this song is absolute bullshit.
Did you ever consider that maybe the people that don't like it, dislke it because it's not their type of song?
Twat.

Favourite Christmas song | Reviewer: Brett | 12/12/08
This song just adds a little fun into Christmas which is what we all need. I'm English and I don't think it matters whether you're English, Irish or Japanese for Christ's sake, this is just a fantastic song that will always be my favourite Christmas song.
are you serious | Reviewer: david byrne | 12/5/08
who ever doesn't like this song must be a fucking "fool". this song is so unique compared to the rest of them. it adds a bit of humour which you need on christmas. all the rest of you english pricks and who ever else are just bias and jealous because its an "IRISH SONG". the BEST christmas song ever written and no one better to sing it than the pogues and kirsty. "I LOVE YOU KISTY AND THE POGUES". you make me proud to be irish
"the boys of the nypd choir still singing galway bay and the bells are ringing out for christmas day"
DAVID OUUUUT!!!!!
Best song ever written | Reviewer: jamison brown | 4/23/08
I can't believe someone would ever say a bad thing about this song! It's not only the best Christmas song, but just may be the best song ever written ever! Rubbish? Tuneless? Come on! Shane MacGowan is a freaking genius and an incredible artist! A drunk? Of course, but who gives a damn? It's all part of his art! Hence: "christmas eve in the drunk-tank". If you don't comprehend, relate to, OR understand this man's artistic nature, PISS OFF! Go listen to your Clay Aiken Christmas album, knit a sweater and sip your damn cocoa!
