She can't take the driking and coming home half drunk looking for comfort, and she ants to leave. In overall effect, i think Brian is trying to "jump into the shoes" of the man in the relationship. Like he's singing to the girl about how he loves her and doesn't want her to give up on him. Maybe it's a relationship he's has before as well.
