The Pixies cover up the awful change of pace ('keeping low doesnt make no sense') by adding excellent guitar work. However, Alec Eiffel would be only a 'good' song without the shift halfway through. The tune that is constantly repeated at the end will be stuck in your head for days and trust me, this is a good sign and it also sounds quite spiritual in a way. Not everything in Alec Eiffel is perfect however because the second time Black sings 'keeping low doesnt make no sense', the song's pace changes for the worst, but only for that small section. All in all, Alec Eiffel is an outstanding song, that is why we are still listening to it today. They didn't want it but they built it anyway. Check out "The Get Up Kids" cover of this(whoever the hell they are), pretty decent.
